To be completely fair, the California Air Resources Board never intended to ban black paint -- or any color of paint, for that matter. When devising ways to implement the Cool Cars Initiative, CARB couldn't find any dark paints that passed the 20% solar reflectivity test, which others took to mean that CARB would be banning them. Not so, says a CARB spokesman: "We are by no means interested in banning or restricting car colors." For now, CARB is sticking with the reflective glass portion of the initiative, which would add a reflective clear coat to windows and $31-$50 to the price of a new car, and is taking public comments on the proposed new rules.

I saw that article & thought I was being Punk'd. but if any state in the Union would consider such a moronic move, it'd be California. And gawd help me, Charlie Crist, our governor here in FL, has his head so far up Arnie's posterior, we'd be next.

Let's hope nobody seriously considers such a move.

I hate when columnists spread inflammatory BS that is barely even grounded in fact. Do some flippin' research before you jump to the conclusion that CA is about to ban black cars.

People laugh at this like it can't happen. Sure its far fetched......but just give it some time. :)

Govt to GM and other companies in trouble: If you want our govt dollars to bail you out, you will take black paint off as an option to aid in reducing fuel consumption and pollution! Oh and by the way your CEO is fired!

I just read an article in an electronics newsletter I get - California has put forth legislation to ban all plasma, DLP, and front projection TVs by the end of 2009. Apparently they consume too much energy, and the government would now like to dictate to you how you use your electricity (which YOU pay for).

Well, if this ever happens to me in Texas, they'll have to pry my projector from my cold, dead hands ;)

Seriously, where does the madness end? I encourage everyone to attend their local Tea Party on the 15th and give our elected officials an idea of how we feel (unless, of course, you're one of those people who has no problem with our freedoms being eroded at an alarming rate). You guys just stay home and tinker with your 3 :D

off subject but did you see the new "charges" that they are putting into affect here in Florida? Where it going to cost you liek 316 bucks just to call the police if they respond. They are going to be adding a $4.25 to everyones light bills for public light maintence.... its getting retarded.

1. I do pay taxes and have been on my own for awhile. I think its a well known fact that florida is one of the few states that dont have a state income tax.

2. I used to live in CA and many othe states that require emissions and inspections.

3. I dont care if we have emissions or inspections here in florida. My car is legal. I have nothing to hide do you?

you obviously missed my point.

one guy from FL was worried about your gov following in the foot steps of arnold in CA re: this car initiative, when in fact you guys don't even have inspections to check emissions. i don't think you have anything to worry about there considering the stark contrast there...florida = no inspection and road toilets running about everywhere, ca = tightest vehicle laws in the union and every man, woman and child getting hammered with fix-it tickets.

then we had you complain about paying for services, but you don't pay income tax in FL. you can't have your cake and eat it too, man! running a city/county/state costs money, and as long as everyone wants this BS socialism in the US, the government will get bigger, and also, more handouts will be given on YOUR dime. those two things take money away from the stuff people REALLY need, so yeah- they are going to charge you. but what i'm saying is look on the bright side you DON'T pay income tax.

My biggest compalint is that I have to pay for services that should be taken care of with city taxes. If you even call the police and they show up because your neighbor is beating his wife you get footed with a 300+ bill becuase YOU called. Also I was complaining about the additional 4.25 a month on my electric bill for city lights is becuase in the past two years my monthly bill literally has more then doubled and the useage is still about the same. I guess im tried of seeing everything going up with the exception of my pay check. You'r right I don't pay income taxes but as it is roughly 1/3rd of my pay checkis just taxes in general.

trust me, there is no contest. NJ is fucked beyond belief vs. pretty much any state in the union.

we are almost 40 billion in the red....40 BILLION.

sales tax is 7%, but that is a non-factor. we have incredible insurance rates because of state surcharges, our income tax/corporate taxes and fees are the worst country wide and we the most state workers and public employees per capita in the US...all with pensions that we have to pay.

there is a reason the state literally might go bankrupt and default on the state pension plan.

all i'm saying is if you think you have it bad, come to NJ. NJ is a GORGEOUS state, and if you play your cards right you can have a great life here, but expect to see in the news some radical destruction and subsequent restructuring when it comes to NJ.

PS- it took them 3 months to get me my firearms ID, and then another who knows how many months for additional pistol purchase permits. BTW, we also don't have any gun shows....the list goes on and on.

FL is full of win vs. NJ, believe that.

i don't want to turn this into a political discussion, but the increased costs you are seeing is def why i am such a proponent of small government and careful spending, so you know when you are paying for something it's because it costs that, not because your money which you already paid went to something obsurd. unfortunately i fear it'll never happen before the country crumbles, but someone like Ron Paul is exactly what we needed in presidential office, and, in my state, Steve Lonegan should be governor.

it'll never happen though because people do not want to look past rhetoric...they just want to listen to a good rap and believe in CHANGE!

yeah it sucks. we are a big abyss with nothing but crap lining the walls.

i just had to renew one of my client's vehicle registrations in FL and transfer the tags from one car to another...it was a matter of calling the sarasota tax collector and spending like 5 minutes on the phone with one person and it'd get done. FL is just buttery in that respect, they make it easy.

in nj, you'd have to talk to 4 people, if you even got a hold of someone, and in the end, it probably would not get done without having to drive to the DMV...and they'd charge you out the ass for fees.
