I tried to do a search but did not find the answer. Was wondering if anyone knew the power of an OEM HID headlight?
I have a strange situation. I bought an '08 5 with a damaged driver side headlight (standard halogen). I found a replacement headlight assembly after looking for weeks, at a WV wrecker - www.car-part.com / great site. Called them up and they shipped the headlight assembly. I received it today and opened up the box to find an HID headlight assembly all in tact with ballast.
So, I guess I have 2 questions,
Can I run the HID headlamp by just plugging it in? If I can, then is there a HID/Xenon kit I can buy that will match the power of the OEM HID for the passenger side?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would love to run HID's if it is possible to match power and color of OEM.
Thanks

I doubt it is OEM HID, unless 08-09 GT comes with HID. In any case I recommend you buy another HID kit 6000K or whichever one you like better and replace everything.

The GT comes with OEM HID in the states...

Took a closer look at the headlamp this morning and saw an extra connection for the ballast. Not sure what this is for. Can someone with OEM HID's take a pic and possibly post it showing all the connectors.
Also noticed that is has the black trim and my right side does not. I guess I missed that yesterday in all my excitement. So, both side do not match.(sad2)

HIDs come in 35W and 55W variants. 35W @ 4300k is what you typically see in most stock HID systems (4300k HID is a very pure white, compared to the yellowish tint of 4300k halogens) and produces about 3000 lumens of light, the 55W @ 4300k is crazy at about 4000 lumens. An 55W H7 halogen bulb @ 4300k produces about 1200 lumens.
If it's plug and play, just go for it. Once you go HIDs you won't go back.

Before I pull the trigger
DDMs are good for the value, a few people over at 9thgencorolla.com have this kit. You won't be disappointed. Stick with 4500k colour, anything higher will look ricey. I personally have the ExEs kit which is about the same quality. Make sure the ballasts are digital (I believe DDMs are, my ExEs definitely are), they'll last longer.
