I recently just bought a mazda cx-9 '09 touring and i would like to have a roof rack(and crossbars) and autodimming mirror (with maybe a back up camera)... if i bought these parts and installed it myself or have someone install it other than a mazda dealership, will it affect my warranty?
thanks

If you bought them with the car and they are listed at options, the warranty should cover it. I'd never volunteer that you installed them yourself, just in case. Just do a good job.
If you buy them separately, they should have their own individual warranty.
Unless you are drilling holes and modifying the car's systems and structure, adding a few accessories won't affect the car's warranty. Particularly Mazda accessories. Again, they may just be warranted separately.

Roof rack is very easy to install. Anyone can do it. No electric wiring involved.
Get a torque screw driver if possible.
As for autodimming mirror, I installed it myself. Some complexity involved depending on your luck. With backview camera, it gets even more involved. As a DIYer, you must enjoy doing it. If not, my advice is pay to have Mazda dealer install it for you.
Warranty? The law says that unless the accessories installed directly affect the failed parts that need repair, the fact that you installed that thing will not void the warranty of the failed parts. That is the Mag.-Moss Act.
However, if you created a short somewhere while installing stuff, the arguments could get complicated if some electronics got affected. The risk is always there if you DIY.

Just my two cents....I've had an auto dimming mirror in my last two cars and for me it's an essential equipment.

Can I ask why it's essential?

I had one in my Montero, but I haven't seen the need for it yet in the CX-9. There's already a pretty decent tint on the rear window and it sits up high enough I don't seem to have an issue with cars headlights blinding me. I could see the necessity of it in a car, but not so much in the 9.

They have a little lever on the bottom to adjust it. Very handy

I had the regular mirror before, but later on installed the autodimming mirror. I find it still doesn't reduce highbeam glare as well as an autodimming mirror.

I like the manual, because flipping between the two settings changes it perfectly for my wife and me.

I have found the same thing with my wife and I.
