Around next week or so I'm going to take out my stock headers and install OBX headers. I just sprayed some WD-40 on the bolts holding the heat shield on, because they looked pretty rusted. Is it safe to drive? Because WD-40 is flammable. Also what bolts should I be spraying. And how many times should I apply WD-40 before I go to remove the bolts.

it would be fine i've done worse....but in all honesty....just wait for the night before you wanna pull it off....hose the bolts on the header to block and then the bolts that hold the exhaust to the header that night
and then hit them again in the morning before you start tearing into it

Is it safe to drive without the heat shield? Cause my school has an auto shop there and I wanna do the header change there, but I wanna take the heat shield off at my house, to save some time and make it easier.

Also should I spray WD-40 on the 02 sensor? Or would that come out easy

Yeah, you should be fine. Like the guy I told who brought in the cat heat shield off his Honda the other day, don't worry about it unless your planning on driving through a field full of tall dry grass. In theory, they are there to help radiate the heat off the exhaust and prevent thermal damage to surrounding components (and prevent brush fires), but if your just taking it off and going right to the shop, you need not worry.

you could spary it on the base of the sensor, but try not to get any near the wiring, and don't get any on the actaul sensor element itself, you could damage the internals. Normally, a good 6 point O2 socket should break it free with little effort.

Any worst case scenarios when changing headers? And how to fix them.

the egr will probably be tight. thats going to be a bitch
also, the spring loaded bolts might give ya a hard time
no way to prevent this, just sue pb blaster to loosen them
9 times outa 10 the heat sheild bolts usually break.snap em off, your not putting the stcok manifold back on.

Ok so pretty much after I take the stock headers off then its going to be pretty much impossible, or really hard to put them back on. And to take the top portion of the heat shield all I need to do is take those 4 visible bolts off? And is there anything else that I should know that isn't included in this thread (http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65746&highlight=obx+headers.) Should I buy any extra parts that wouldn't be included in the 2.0 liter OBX header from protegegarge.

wow cant believe i am the first to say this but just to let u know we only have one header, not headers. i just did this maybe 2 months ago, if u have power tools at your school your set, but if you are using hand tools give yourself plenty of time and make sure u have all new hardware ready to go.

if you are going to be a grammar police, you should probably make sure your grammar is correct...

Haha my bad I always mess than up, I know it's only a single 4-1 pipe though
But should I buy and extra bolts, like those spring loaded bolts or w/e

You should be buying 2 spark plug nonfoulers, drilling one out with 1/2 inch bit, put non drilled one into 2nd o2 bung on header, put the drilled one into the non drilled one & put o2 sensor in both. This will keep from getting CEL for 4.00 & easier than hacking the wiring to do the other mod to keep cel away.

I don't need to worry about the no-fouler because I bought a MSP midpipe the other day, and that has 2 cats. Thanks 4 the heads up though.
Today when I got home the heat shield was smoking. I'm guessing it was cause I sprayed some WD-40 on it the day before. But I spritzed some water on it. Do you think it'll be fine?

Buy some PB blaster it's available at all the auto parts stores/ walmart. It's much better than WD-40.

It smells awful under the hood, and I'm kind of afraid to drive it now. It doesn't smoke anymore, but it smells like burning plastic. It sucks. Is it safe to drive though?

I believe all spray penetrants are flammable' but they probably need an open flame or a very hot surface temp to ignite, i wouldn't worry if you don't coat the entire heat shield with it. I've used it and ran the motor no probs.

Ok, cool hopefully my new header (yeah I remembered this time) comes in soon. I can't wait to be done with this already.
