Rear deck speakers are 6x9's.

Don't you have to remove the rear sub assembly completely if you're going to after-market rear deck speakers?

They install from the top (once you remove the plastic rear deck cover) so I don't think so. IDK for sure though, I've only done a normal sedan.

K. so the 6x9s are exchangeable which is great b/c the infinitys are going to bump but now do i need to remove the whole rear sub assembly for this? b/c thats too much for speaker swap. And thanks maxx mazda i just thought i ask if 6x9s would fit sice there is a sticky where i read the rear speakers are different size.

this is the sticky i was refering to.

OVAL vs. ROUND: Many Mazdas come with oval (5x7",6x8",6x9") shaped speakers. If you want high-end components you may find they only come in 5.25" and 6.5". The good news is that you can install these with a little extra work. See this how-to for details on installing 6.5" speakers.
You can also purchase abs plastic adapters but these will not account for mounting depth issues with large drivers.

2003 Mazda Speed Protege
Front 5x7" @ 2.75"
* Can use 6x8"s, see note above.
* Can also use 5.25"s or 6.5"s with additional work, see note above.
Front seperate tweeters by mirrors.
Rear 6" @ 4.25", 6" speakers fit the best and 6 1/2" can fit by cutting the rain guard.

I sold my sub assembly locally to a non-MSP protege owner. She said that the 6x9s in her rear deck were interfering with the sub assembly at first, but with a little bit of tweaking she got them both to fit. I think she used some spacers to lift the 6x9s up a little, and some washers on the sub assembly bolts to move it down a bit.

So, short story is that it's possible, but may take a little bit (or a lot) of work depending on how deep your 6x9 speakers are.

proteges didnt have speakers in the rear doors stock because they had them in the rear deck. the reason we have rear door speakers is because 6x9s do not fit in the rear deck with our stock subwoofer. theres only like 1" of clearance.

I thought the MSP's had the 6x9's in the rear deck also, and none in the rear doors, like a standard sedan.

Nope, there's nothing in the rear deck, and the rear speakers are in the doors.

I can get more info on what was needed to put speakers in the rear deck, while using the stock sub enclosure if the OP is interested.

you may be right about the mp3, but yea the msp just teases you with the rear deck because of the rain guards for speakers....but no speakers lol.
