How long to clear CEL after loose gas cap?

hi everyone,

my CEL came on yesterday. check the gas cap. it was very loose (actually not really on at all, filled up at a full serve in jersey a couple of days ago). i've started the car about 8 times since then...

i can go reset the ecu now, but will the CEL just go away on it's own? i know on my wife's accord it goes away after several days/several starts..

Yeah, it should go away after a while. No way to know exactly when AFAIK. Just reset the ECU like you said if it's bothering you....but you'll lose any radio presets, etc. by doing so.

Or get a code reader, which can reset the fault.

i had a cel due to a loose gas cap, it went away about 10 minutes after tightening the cap.

I had a cel from a boost leak (clamp came off). Took about 4 drives for it to go off.

You sure its a loose gas cap?? I had some dirt in mine when I bought it and the CEL wouldn't go away. Took it to the dealer and they told me they had to clean out a little dirt I didn't see.

no, not sure it was a loose gas cap...however, the cap not even attached/screwed on at all. so that was my assumption. all is well, since i just got back from my first oil change. they reset the CEL. we'll see if it comes back
