im looking into buying a 2008 sport at my local dealership i was wondering what do you think is the best price i could get. they have a bout 7 08's left so i no there tryin to get rid of them. they have the one im looking at listed for 20,990 online with an MSRP of 23,610. would getting 20k OTD be possible. i would be paying in cash.

oh yeah, CASH! very possible. just cut to the chase let them know as soon as you walk in there that you want that car 20k out the door.

i agree. just be straight up to them. they gonna say no at first. just keep bargaining.

Cash often has a negative affect on haggling price. If you go through with dealer financing, sometimes they make a little on the back end and will offset your cost a little to reflect that.

Sometimes cash isn't always something that works in your favor.

I think getting 20k OTD would be very tough. They might sell it for 20k, but the OTD price is like 2k more.

I paid $21,300 for my sport Last Sept. & that was $500 under invoice. 20k seems like a stretch, unless they want to move some inventory.

20K with this market is very easy to do...especially with cash! I know I'm just regirgitating what everyone is saying but it'll definitely work. (headbang)

dont tell them you are paying cash untill the end of the deal. that includes OTD price. (tax, lic., dealer penitration, ect.)

Yeah, don't mention you are not financing til you get everything organized. They do make extra money on that.

I got a used '07 Sport with 7k miles (14 months old) for $18,500. Don't know how that would translate into getting a year old NEW Sport, but it is just for reference.

I think 20 is very doable

do there financing, and pay it off on the first payment

YOU are SO in the driver seat

just f with em,, do the dance, start at 19.5
always deal in the OTD number, make sure you are clear that that means TTL fees etc......OTD be super nice, be absolutely clear you will sign the second they shit the number

As an update they just lowered the price online to 19.599 on the 08 gray sport i was looking at im probably gonna go over this weekend and work something out, i did notice they just got about 8 or 9 new 2010 mazda 3's on the lot so that probably has somthing to do with it

Just fyi, I bought a new 2008.5 red GT 3 days ago from a dealer (12 miles on the car) and got 21k OTD (our state sales tax is 6%) haggling for only about 10 minutes, so you should definitely be able to go lower

I just got a 2008.5 GT Saturday for 24 OTD but I had to roll in some neg equity from a lease to get it. Would have been in the 21s if I walked in with no trade. They had a 2500 rebate and were willing to sell below invoice, they still make money though so it works out for everyone.

I bought a 2008.5 Sport for $20,500 OTD about 2 weeks ago. I think you'll be able to get it down to $20,000. Just remember that you can always walk away, if they don't want to sell the car for that price.

When did the $2500 dealer cash back kick in?

Here's my point of reference FWIW...

I just bought an 09 speed 3 GT on 3/14/09 and it was 22,600 OTD. Included was a 6yr/60k mile warranty and an alarm/immobilizer. It was the last one on the lot and they needed space on the lot for all the new standard 2010 3's. The trick to getting a good deal IMO is as follows.

1. Do not be afraid/hesitant to walk away if you do not get the deal you are asking for. I walked away after a test drive and an hour of negotiation with the finance guy. When I came back, not only did he remember me, but he took my original offer right off the bat.

2. I would finance and then pay it off later w/ cash if that's how you want to handle it. Avoid all cash up front as SwampAss advises. It is much more difficult to have any recourse when paying in cash. I paid my down payment on my CC so I could dispute charges with them in the dealership tried anything shady. I'll just pay it off in full when it comes due.

3. Take your time. Make sure everything is as you want it before driving away. I sent the car back after they cleaned it up for me because the rear tires looked low on air. I asked them to check the tires an they found a small nail in the rear driver's side.

4. Look online/call the see how many models the dealer has left in stock. Often times they just want to get rid of them to make space for the new ones instead of having them sit on the boat in the harbor or in their storage facility.

5. Be courteous. If they want to hard sell you/ be douchebags, get up in the middle of their sentence and walk out. Their tone and mannerism will change and if not, why waste your time and energy on them by insulting them back. Go find another dealer that will treat you better.

Best of luck to you.

Just an FYI, I just got my 2008 MS3 sport for $18k. I think the MSRP he showed me was 22K or somewhere around there. It was the last 2008 they had on the lot and had 56 miles on it.

Good Luck!

That's some bulls**t! I'd sell the Sentra on my own. (craigslist!) Maybe try for the Mustang, depends on the engine and mods if any. Personally, I wouldn't sell the Mustang.

may i just say "Congrats & well done!" to the ppl who waited until now to get their MS3. I bought mine in march 07 and had to go thru all the tricks in the world [pay ca$h, pit 3 dealers against each other, used the internet, walked away & came back, you name it i did it] just to get a $1k discount on the MSRP. These days you have to duck so you won't get hit by all the offers the dealers are throwing...

Dealership where I bought my Speed 6 still has 4 leftover 08s remaining. Around my area, the Speed 3 demand has fallen like the Speed 6 did, and you can get one for super cheap. I'd bet they would unload them for even less then you paid, since the car has depreciated, and is a year old now.

Great time to buy a car, as prices are insane everywhere, if you play your cards right. People just aren't buying cars right now, so there are so many incredible deals to be had, even on Speed 3s. Just depends on area I suppose.

My salesman told me they had $3000 incentive on them, so they would be making good money at $20k. I would offer $18,500 plus tax/tag/title/doc/prep/mopnglo etc

I'm currently looking at picking up this used 07 speed3. It's the only white one I can find in Ontario! It has 40,000km, or 25,000miles

http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/details.aspx?vlotid=28968&adid=7680305

Price is $19,999CAD = $17,000USD
EDIT: Price is now $21,499CAD = $18,200USD

What do you guys think of this deal, and how much do you figure I could work them down to since it's used? Thanks a lot!

So I test drove it today and...it's a beast. I was pretty much doing this --> (hump) the whole time. I'm seriously considering putting down an offer, but not sure how much room I have to bargain (I've never bought a used before).

Any help guys?

Well, it sounds like you are hooked on it in the color white? Nice Choice!!!

If the car checks out, make an offer that you know is too low. (Like Trade in value) You know they will most likely not have more than the trade in value into the car, possibly even less. Then just be prepared to walk until you get the price you want. Make sure they know that it is not the color you want. (lol2) Also don't be suprised when you walk, and you get a phone call from the dealer later. Don't forget to price out a new one with all of those lucious rebates!(cabpatch)

Well, I drove one today and liked it pretty good. I didn't get to go far because it was lunch. They also looked at my car. We'll see how they do against the Honda dealer. Great bottom end torque, nice steering feel, great seats. I didn't get enough time in it to rate the ride, but it seemed pretty good over some typical crappy North Carolina roads. I wonder how the Sport stereo will sound as the Bose in the GT didn't really wow me. I can always change that though. Trying to drive a Cobalt SS sedan soon as well and possibly a Caliber SRT4.

in the end you'll go with the speed i drove both thoes cars the caliber twice th cobalt is pretty nimble and quick but it looks like crap and the caliber is just bla drives to much like a suv but it is fast though and has great wheels lol
