View Full Version : Can a dealer tell?
If you reset your ECU before bringing your car into their shop for warranty work, will they see you recently reset your ECU if they scan it? I would think they could tell, but wanted to ask. Might make a difference if you took your car in for warranty work and put it back to stock beforehand and reset the ECU before you took it in.

there check engine code reader can tell past codes that have been cleared. At least that what they can do at the VW dealership, so that might be an issue if you take your ms3 in there for work

who cares. tell them you wanted to reset your fuel trims
I hear ya. I'd rather not tell them anything whatsoever and just pretend I don't know anything about it. Telling them I wanted to reset the fuel trims lets them know I understand something rather important about the car's fuel system and it's ECU. I feel they don't need to know that unless I think they need to know it and it's helpful to me in some way.
The key is if I have mods ( which I don't .....yet ) and have to strip them off the car before taking it in for anything, I'd just like to know if they can detect I've reset the ECU. I'm really not planning to take it there unless I have a problem but wanted to know what other members have encountered.

ok resetting your ecu is equivelant to just draining your battery.
if they ask (which they wont) just say you pulled your battery out, or your battery died because you left the lights on etc

Yes - thanks. Was thinking of a similar response but the dead battery one is excellent. I think you're right by the way, they probably won't ask.
Thanks!
