Im not sure what your asking since your writing is not very clear. You can reset a CEL, but it will come back if there is a problem. You should not vent to the atmosphere on cars that have a Mass airflow sensor. However, you shouldn't throw a cel even if you are VTA. If you throw a CEL you should get it read and address the problem.

VTA is NOT a good idea on our cars. They will backfire like mad between shifts and just run like crap overall. I know people get a hard-on for the sound, but really guys?! Do you need to be that Rice?

disconnecting the battery and pumping brakes ( so the lights come on) is to drain the power and it resets the ecu. If you got a cel after you reset and it went away, then you should keep it recirc untill you can get it tuned so you can run vta

Get it tuned just so you can run VTA? What's the point -- the freakin sound? I'm with Bravnik on this one.
