So, seeing as I'm hoping to be FMIC soon, and I lost my fog delete due to the incident which you can see the result of in the pics below (I'm working on it, gimme some time lol) I came up with an idea for mounting a license plate (yeah, they're required by my state, just about the only bad thing about living here as far as cars... other than snow)...
So I stopped off at the hardware store, picked up a section of 1/8" by 3/4" aluminum, and 2 aluminum screws and nuts... I didn't take pics in process, but its fairly self explanatory.... Measure, cut, put in a vice to bend... measure again...
FYI, it is mounted to the car using what I have to assume is a fog light bracket mounting point.
Its not perfect, I wanted both arms to mount to a common point for strength, but I may make another version with the arm to the outer side of the plate mounting to the fog area, and then build an arm off of that a couple inches out for the inner side so that the plate ends up closer to the bumper, and moves a couple of inches toward the center of the car also.
Tell me what you think!

Looks good. I've thinking about this as well but I have a foglight. I'm considering making one that retracts back under the front of the bumper

yeah, one step short of this woulda been hinging it so at speed it would push back into the lower grill..

^haha, a couple inches will do the trick eh? Waiting for the "flaming to begin!" Love the way you said that.
Either way, love the concept you've got going on but no front plates needed here as well.

you put all this time into this when in WI they will be removing the front plate law...that sucks. drive without it till you get caught, then put it back on and get the ticket dropped. then simply remove it again :)...or just dont run one cause they look lame

lol.. i hate the front plate thing in ohio.. i dont run one on my caddy though.. i guess the mixture of black cad on 20 inch wheels and black tint leads them to believe its too much work to stop that car.. haha.. but that looks nice.. i like seeing when ppl make things like this

They're dropping it? news to me... Honestly it was as much about making it as using it.. since the fog delete was lost and I'm putting in an FMIC, i figured it would be fun...

This is car customization to me... I did something similar with my 3rd brake light when I took off the spoiler... one off custom is the only way to go.

Nice! I've been starting to brainstorm ways to build a mount, now that I have something behind the grille that needs airflow. I also really like the idea of decorative plate like the one you posted for subies... Not only do I have the two ugly holes behind the front plate, but it looks like there used to be some kind of label there, that left behind a bunch of dirty goo. :(

glad to help out. haha. I'm probably gonna go with a revised version of this once I install my FMIC plumbing..

I, for one, would definitely be interested in some pics and measurements of what you end up with.
Funny... I always thought WI had no front plate requirement. I'm in Somerset a couple times per month for work, and seems like at least 2/3 of WI cars have no front plate. Always made me jealous lol

we have the law, many don't follow it.. I prefer to not just hand cops a reason to pull me over, and having a plate doesn't hurt me. car came tinted (about 20% which is illegal), and I put in 6000K HIDs... when I go catless, that'll be another i could get nailed on.
We have a front plate law in Missouri, but I see a lot of people getting away with just keeping it in the windshield. If I remember right, the law just says that the front plate has to be displayed on the front of the vehicle at a certain height. I'll have to look it up again...

in the window is worse than not having one at all here, they usually get you for obstruction of view as well as no front plate...

could you post a step by step and you measurements i cant seem to make it work on my car and im not sure where you mounted it all to

if you take out the fog delete you'll see a place where one of the bolts holding the license plate bracket to the bumper will go.
as for measurements... I didn't take any. lol. I did it all on the fly...bent it in a vice, and then just used the plate to judge how far I had to go to make it all fit.

I ended up going a tad different route, since I still have fog lights. And have been told that it's legal in IL, since the plate is still mounted with numbers showing on the front bumper at legal height. the kicker here is that I folded the upper and lower portions to display the numbers had I cut it as I originally intended it would be illegal.
