Help me get more power into my miata

I own a '97' model miata, last of the pop-up headlights with a lock, stock 1.8 under the bonnet. I would really love lots more power under the bonnet. I have seen online, guys putting V8's in their car (no V8's unless the engine is a winner). To be honest I want to get north of 250bhp from a naturally aspirated engine if possible, otherwise a supercharger is my thing. I have read about the 2.5L V6 KL-ZE and it sounds ok.

Will it mate up to the existing gearbox, clutch, drivetrain etc?

I would simply prefer to start with a bigger engine under the bonnet and take it from there so if this won't work what would you suggest I take a look at?

this was back from my days of having my protege, but if I remember correctly the klze/klde/kl03 all mate up the probe or mx6 tranny. I know its a common swap to get the probe tranny, just for the life of me I cant remember why. there is already a klde swap and if i remember correctly the video is on youtube.
