hey guys im getting a really weird noise at idle. it's been going on a while its just never bothered me now ive decided to make the care more permanent i gotta figure it out. its like a clicking noise at idle thats coming from the engine bay. no not a the engine is hot and is ooling off. it sounds like its coming from the front. no idea what could be causing it doesnt sound consistent enough to be rotating scraping or anything... any clues?

it's just the lifters.....no worries.....my 2.0l has been doing it for years...

it's one of the quirks of the motors, every one has something. and the ticking is alot better than the one i'm dealing with in my dakota with is poor oil movement that causes buildup

no its not a small tick guys. at least i dont think its very noticeable and loud.. but it could be.

take that shit in to the dealer then. this is the exact reason why we have warranties

Doesn't sound like DI tick to me. FYI, that is a very fast-paced tick-tick-tick that's constant when the engine is running. Can't very well have an inconsistent injector tick, think about it...

lol my warranty is by by long time ago =) i think it might be something rubbing ima go take a closer look man this is a bugger i expected someone to diagnose it fast

Try sitting on your car with everything turned off radio a/c etc...

Leave the engine running obvisouly....push the clutch in , the throwout bearings in these cars are pieces of crap...if it doesnt go away then its more than likely the injector tick...

laffin hard at this one... that's it in a nutshell... they are noisy little things, aren't they?... tranny noise, throw out bearing, valve train noise, injectors clickin away... i think i can even here the wheeeeeee of the turbo in there as well...

uh not that consistent but simialar sounding dont think its a belt

does it sound like marble rattling? Ticking and rattling.. i have that too.

yes actually thats exactly it and its not the throwout bearings or w/e tried the clutch thing

Some belt tensioner or something. Common problem with these cars. Many post regarding it on the m3f. I am probably going to go to dealer to get it fixed along with fuel pump.

the marble thing has been said to be the dual mass flywheel. I started a thread on the *other* forum about this last week and got some responses. Check it out of you like, i have to post a response because i do not believe its that anymore:
