Alright, so I have the hood props on, but they are not short enough to attach to the hood. How the heck do they extend/get shorter? Is there some secret to getting them to suck in? I tried pushing as hard as I could, still won't budge.

is there enough hydraulic fluid in them? are they used?

They are brand new. I think I got it figured out though after someone PMed me last night about them.. I just have to raise my hood really high up to put them on, then we'll see.

Just attach them and see if they compress any. They should be a little hard since its for a reg hood (right??) the carbon fiber hood dampers are much easyer to compress. But put it on the ground between your feet and try to compress them, if you cant even do it from that then they might be WAY to strong IMHO.

They're on, but one of the little pins bent and made the damper pop off the ball on one side when I went to close it slowly. They are supposed to be for a CF hood, they are kinda hard to compress.. kinda gotta pull a good amount but not too bad. I got a piece of wire and basically wrapped it around and wired the damper around the ball so that it wouldn't pop off anymore. It split the holes where the pin went through.

you should get some pics of the attachment sites, etc. i'd like to make a set of these for mine.

would the CF dampers be too weak to hold up a regular hood?

Anyone know the actual length of these. I don't see why a set couldn't be made easily.

ok i measured the 1 prop i have in my room. its 20 3/4 inches. i had to take one off cause 2 were 2 much power for the cf hood i have

So do you have the dampers designed for the CF hood or regular hood?

How much for that extra one?? I may need it when I install that hood you gave me??

You got the wrong length extenders. Most places don't know about the part mixup with NRG.

30lbs for a cf hood.

What's the right length then??

NRRfrogmanP5

they were designed for the stock hood. and the size i gave was uncompressed

kingpin748

Aren't you suppose to compress them a few times before you put them on? I had to put one end on the concrete and a piece of wood on the other end. I basically had to push down with all my weight before it compressed. After that it was easy.

NRRfrogmanP5

I have the nrg dampers and they are too long to close the hood? The struts bottom out on the fender

Metallic36

Try moving them down to the next bolt on your frame. I had to do that, now it's the right length and they close fine.

what is the distance between the two screws ??:cool:

Metallic36

I believe there are three screws on the frame, on each side. I think they are equally spaced. I had someone else contact me from Canada and he came to the conclusion that he has the wrong dampers, his hood wouldn't shut.

Mine are little short, so it doesn't open the hood all the way, but I don't really mind b/c it looks better for shows.
This is how it should look installed.

Mine look a little different but I test fitted for them so they may have changed it a little.

Does it make any difference in which way the prop is facing? In the pic JDMSam posted, would it matter if the larger part were mounted to the hood?

They sent me the bad aluminum part ! IT IS TOO LONG !

Ok, I understand now lol. But I would call them up and tell them about it, they should send you the correct one after you send them back, heck they might let u keep them ;)

Ok ok ok, just got the dampers for crossover, and hes hot on AIM ATM COMEONE SAMMMMM hahahaha

But I installed them , i tryed both way (shocks up top and bottom) but when i put the hood up it doesnt go up as high (like what Sam said his is like) And when I let go it doesnt stay uP!!! WTF, its like the shocks arnt strong enough for my carbon hood somehow.

Metallic36
06-23-2009, 03:12 PM
Weird.. like it doesn't have enough pressure to hold it up?

Edit.. here are some photos of mine for reference.. my driver's side one I actually had to wire down because the pressure from trying to shut my hood the first time broke that little pin that goes through the two holes, and it ripped through the ball cover part. The other one was fine though, I just try to be easy with them when I open and close my hood.

Outlawstar98
06-23-2009, 03:14 PM
yeah...... Im like WTF and jdm sam isn't on aim ATM hahaha. slackerrrrrrrrr he must know i want him! I can close the hood perfect and everything, just the dampers arn't strong enough.

I want a set, but after hearing all the issues with them I don't know.

^ Mine were used and went on without a hitch. They function beautifully as well.

I have the same issue, I installed my dampers no problem, when i went to test fit and how well the works, i found that they couldnt hold the weight of my hood, which is oem, the dampers say they ONLY hold oem hoods. I have no idea what the issue is....WTF!

Metallic36
10-10-2009, 02:36 PM
HAHA I could probably trade you. Mine are for a stock hood, no doubt. I installed a set on my husband's RX8 and they fit fine, hold the hood fine, and are easy and smooth to close the hood. The ones on my CF hood on the other hand, you have to pull it down to close it, and if your fingers slip while pulling down on it (which hasn't happened lol) the hood would go flying up.

3 Sets, I test fitted for them years ago and I pop my hood everywhere and it's still good. Love showing off that big turbo.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, the bolts holding the fender to the inner fender are M6 are they not?

Outlawstar98
10-11-2009, 11:02 AM
Idk, but I went through 3 sets, and they went blown, I had a carbon hood and they would not hold it up... I posted videos on here before... But ya, it annoyed me so I gave up with ngr and got some prosport ones, they look actually better IMO also. But to each their own, ngr is china stuff, mist of had a bad batch I guess... Thts why my job never buys anything from china, cause their inspection sucks.

I have not had good experiences with the NRG kit. I'm currently on my second set and am looking to buy a different brand. My first set ended up rusting and stopped working and my second set I have to have angle my hood brackets to allow the hood to close. And almost every time I take them on and off the ball sockets and locking pins end up getting bent out of shape so I can't use them. I got a bag full of extas so I can replace them when this happens but it shouldn't happen to begin with.

Darkjocker

NRG sent me 1/2 psi for my OEM hood.

But I need a 1 psi damper, my OEM hood fall down each time I open up.

I need to cut the extention at 4 inches to fit perfectly...
