I am trying to help out a friend of mine with a 2000 626, they are having a weird problem. The car is a 4 cyl. auto. The car will start right up when cold, and drive fine. After the car has been driven for a while and the engine is nice and hot, you shut the engine off, to say, go into a store, and then the engine will not re-start. If you wait about an hour, the car will start right back up as if nothing had happened. The ECU is not detecting a fault, thus no codes are being stored.
This sounds like the ignitor problem that used to be common on the V6 models, but I am not sure if the 4-cyl. engine shared the same ignitor. Thanks for any help.

so it wont turn over, or wont will but wont start? try replicating the situation, and then if it will turn over pull a wire and check for spark

It turns over, but won't start. I know the usual check-list when a car doesn't start. I don't have access to the car yet, I was just trying to find out if there were any common problems that would cause something like this. Kind of like the manifold cracking on the MSP's. That sort of thing.

most likely a ignition problem...do the basics first

It's one of three different issues, it is either a Ignition problem, Distributor or Starter... I would do a full tune up. spark plugs, wires, distributor cap n rotor and then see if it still occurs. If so, then more than likely its the ignition module in the distributor.

I am bringing this thread back up because my 2000 626 is doing the exact same thing. MX5RACER, did you ever solve the problem? If so what did you find?
