How does the CX-7 engine control ECU "know" when maximum boost has been reached and start opening/"cracking" the wastegate open..??

Anyone know..??

Not so much interested in HOW boost is limited so much so as WHEN the engine ECU knows how to start limiting the boost level as RPM rises with WOT.

Intake manifold pressure sensor...??

yes the map sensor is a good one on limiting boost. but the ecu is programed to hit that boost level so it knows.
