Illumination wire

So I've read and read and can't find anything that helps with this. I installed an STRI boost gauge and ended up splicing the illumination wire to the cigarette lighter cause nothing else was working. Of course since there is power there the gauge dims as soon as I start the car. No other wire was working for me.

So where can I splice it so that it lights up correctly then dims when I turn my lights on?

Back of the radio. terminal 1e or 1g, cant remember which. Get a multimeter, and see which wire see power with parking lights on, and does not without.

pop out the dimmer switch and tap into the light green wire.

Ok so let me ask the obvious dumb question. How do I pop out the switch? I tried to a little but was afraid of breaking it.

were the switch slides in the dash, you have to pinch the top and bottom on the backside, and it slides out.
