Help with this question!
I know you use the "U tool" to squeeze the clips in to slide the radio out, but my question is this:
Do you have to reuse those clips on your aftermarket head unit?

thanks for the reply!!
I received the single din mounting kit from crutchfield with the head unit.. I'm not sure how it mounts in place or if it will need to reuse those clips.

I went to the single din radio and the MSP pocket. I didnt use any clips, the HU "cage" just goes in and use the mounting tabs to secure it in....

thanks EM. you're talking about little tabs you fold up or out from the cage? I've done it before in other cars, but this is the first time in the mazda. the stocker finally bit the dust!! and i've got 5 CDs stuck inside :(
I've never had a mazda or ford before, so those "U tool" and clips on the side are new to me. And somehow one of them is bent out so far outward that the U-Tool cannot get to it to push it in. I took out the glovebox and tried to reach up and push it in, but it appears to be snagged on something :( Go figure. Like I said, this is my first audio upgrade in the car, so I don't know how it got like that.
thanks again!

You do NOT need.. and probably CAN'T use the mount clips on the side of the double-din stock radio. I never used the U-bracket thingy to remove the stock radio - I did not have one. I had removed the center-bezel-trim plastic, the glove box and pulled forward the heater-control unit.
I had this all apart because I was replacing a bulb on the heater-control unit. I use my own super-human strength to push in the tabs at the side and push/pulled the radio out. A little struggle and it came out.
My Clarion radio has its on mounting CAGE (not clips). I purchased the MSP Pocket with the support bar. Tabs on the cage get pushed down so they catch and the cage can't be pulled out. The Radio 'clips' into the cage.
BTW, the MSP pocket with the bar is PRICEEYY, but damn is it worth it. Looks very very tidy and everything fits perfectly.
