I have a cousin with a Toyota Mr2 that he has (extensively) modified using only performance and body parts from a higher-performance Japan-only version of the car.

Has anyone heard of this with the P5?

To avoid a long, detailed, and probably pointless post in the end... no.

people have tried JDM engines and ended up very dissapointed. All of the emissions crap and the tune in the factory ECU really limit what you can do with "OEM" parts.

whats even worse with the JDM engines is that u dont get the turbo spooool like you do when u go boooost.
the jdm engine only gets u JDM braggin rights like the Type R's.
other than that boost is ur best route and u'll be alot happier and save alot more money than doing an N/A build or JDM build.

when it comes to hondas jdm motors are usually WAY better than usdm. trust me, my swapped accord with jdm h22a was tons faster than lets say a h22a1 or a4 AND mine was automatic with LSD.

Thats nice, The point is if your stuck on doign the JDM swap go for it. Others have done it and have been disappointed.

lol well i understand why they would be dissapointed. everyone thinks jdm is the best ever when in reality they usually have like a 10hp difference and higher compression(in hondas that is). but most people go turbo so that higher compression isnt worth it in the end. it all depends on what their plans were. if they thought buying a mad jdm tyte motor was gonna help them beat every car on the road then they are just plain stupid.

not to mention mazda was mostly run by ford during the production of the P5s, and honda is honda. therefore, jdm honda is 100% jdm while jdm P5 is kinda eh...

Two bad the Proteges were still all built in Japan... C'mon guys, the Ford cracks can really stop now... As for "JDM" engines, if the entire setup is used, the FSZE engine can produce 170 hp at the flywheel. This however, not only the engine, but the ECU and intake manifold and some kind of exhaust manifold at the very least.
