BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
My beloved P-5 has now died. My wife was driving home from some errands, was cruising along minding her own business and a big ass truck pulled right in front of her. She is ok, a few burns from the airbags, a little whiplash and a little sore, but she's tough and can handle it.
The car is obviously screwed and most likely totalled. As you can see the whole front end is fubar. The truck suffered minor front end damage to the suspension and front bumper, and the driver was also OK. Luckily there was an off-duty cop behind them that saw the whole thing happen, it was the truck drivers fault.
We should find out on Monday if it's totalled, my wife is incredibly pissed off that she'll have to give up her "Baby". She just paid it off last week. She lost her job and used her entire severence package to pay it off. I'm just happy she is ok, it kinda sucks to get a phone call from your wife balling her eyes out in pain.
If you look close at the pics, you can see the wheel, rotor and caliper from the truck at the front of the car, yet the tire is still on the truck!

Ouch! That's painful to look at. Glad to hear your wife is ok but that sucks about the car. P5's are not easy to replace. :(

I'd let them total it, buy it back and fix it. I've had it worse than that and it ended up looking great.

Generally if the airbags went off--that's an immediate total.

That's kinda what I thought too. I know they are very expensive to replace. My wife says they are not as soft and fluffy as they look like on tv!! Her whole face feels like it's broken.
The red stuff under the tire is either brake fluid from the truck or power steering fluid. It was hard to tell exactly where it came from. Parting it out will probably not be an option, we need a new car and we need it quickly. I would love to get the seats out of it though. Black and yellow leather, very nice, I'd like to sell them. I'd hate to see them go to a junkyard somewhere.
Sorry to hear that, but glad your wife is okay, that will be totalled for sure, if the airbags went off that's about 3 grand before you even start. My friend had an accident in a Honda Accord and the airbags were over 4 grand.
Good luck with your insurance and I hope you don't get screwed by them as well.

holy crap! how did the tire on the truck stay in about the right spot yet.... just wow. Glad your wife's ok. I am always afraid of airbag deployment
Not trying to be the asshole, but If you do decide to part it out, I'd like the rear hatch if it's in good shape.

Ha! That's funny you say that, it's basically brand fuckin new. I got it replaced due to rust, on warranty, in 2007. I highly doubt that I'll part it out, I hope to find out more tomorrow when my shop looks at it for an estimate. We went car searching today and found a red P5 for $13K, waaaaayyyy too much. We also found a couple Bimmers for sale, a 540 and 528, that may be the route we take if it is totalled. If I do part it out, I'll let you know about the hatch.

She was going at least 45 mph, and never had a chance to even tap the brakes! I'm very impressed how the P5 held up!!

Just get ready for a fight w/ the insurance co. over the price, they will lowball you on it for sure. The CCC s/w they use tends to be pretty unrealistic about the cost of actually buying one. Start looking NOW for P5s anywhere w/in 100 mi of you... at dealerships etc, full retail price... I ran into a big prob w/ this just 6 weeks ago, sicne theese cars are so rare they have very little to base it on (besides the number their s/w just spits out) so you'll want to find several yourself that are "exemplars".

Thanks. I definately know about the rusting hatch. I'm assuming that mine is from the replacement of the rear windshield though. Looks like the car was broken into (I found lots of glass in the spare tire area) and there is lots of rust around the window trim. wish I would have looked closer when I bought the car.
Good luck with insurance.

Well, it was totalled out. We did not get a very good offer from the Ins. company. So, does anyone want any parts?!!!? We need to recoup some costs, so parting it out is a possibility. Just need to know what anyone may want to see if it's worth doing.
I've got Dave B's, K&N, black and yellow leather, brembo drilled rotors, a brand new shiny hatch, roof rack, wheels, etc...
I attached a pic from her better days at the NOPI Nationals 2006 where I took a 3rd place trophy.
Thanks for everyones kind words during my time of loss
