I know, i know another ecu question.

I am trying to get my car ready for summer.

I am looking for a standalone. The guy that is going to tune my car, He really suggests that i go with an AEM unit.

Is there a plug and play AEM unit?

I remember someone saying a while ago it does not work the the msp ECU???

Thanks in Advance

Theres no AEM for the MSP that is plug and play, its more of, plug, splice, and hope for the best. There are better units out there for the MSP IMHO

Which unit's are those, and what are the reasons?

The best standalone for the MSP from what people say would be, quoted from ken:

haltech e6x or e8. i ran a microtech, had a haltech before it. if i had the choice to do it again, it would be a haltech. simply put, you get what you pay for. you can wire in the haltech as an inline standalone and not have to worry about wiring trickery to befuddle the computer. you have a unit with arguably the highest resolution and most features available on it. if you want to run the kind of power and equipment you are talking about it, for this car, there is no comparison unless you want to spend thousands more on a motec or similar system that has no base maps or forum support. at the same time, you aren't going to want to shortchange yourself with something that will just get you by. at this level, you want to do it once, do it right and be happy with the results.

pdhaudio was making over 365 whp with an e6x and a mental addiction street sleeper kit, reliably daily driven turn key, no nonsense. the AEM, as i recall, had a hard time with the crank trigger signal on these cars.

haltech software is simple and straight forward. you have control over practically every variable that will affect how the engine runs. you have the benefit of 3D tuning and offline tuning - neither of which the microtech has. You have double the resolution on a comparable unit to a microtech. Input for wideband, output for RPM based boost control and output for things like - yep you guessed it - methanol injection. You can run, if needed, extra fuel pumps or staged extra injectors. You can set a valet map that is readily switchable. If you get the E8, you don't even need a set of sensors like you did with the E6X - works right off the factory stuff under the hood.

good engine management costs money. and there are levels of engine management that will work great depending on the level you are at or aim to be at. for me, at this level, my money would be on the haltech. i've used both, tuned both, run both personally.

if you want "a good piggyback for mild bolt-ons" the Unichip is another good way to go.

I've also been recommended the AEM engine management hardware, simply because you can get rid of the factory ECU altogether. If it wasn't over $2k to get everything needed I would do it.

Your tuner is smart. He just wants to bypass all that factory shit. But he better be damn good, cause you have to program those units to have your car do everything. I mean you have to tell it when to fart at 1356.8740 RPMs, then when to sneeze at 1357.6543 RPMs.

unichip wont cut it, Built motor.

But ya, i do not want to spend that much with the aem. Then i have to pay for someone to install it etc. I think im going to go with the haltech.
