10" sub in the jackstand stealthbox?

I was trying to look for more information about this, but found only a handful.

Did anyone try to fit a 10" sub into the jackstand stealthbox? I snagged a jackstand stealthbox from http://www.mazda3stealthbox.com/, but I'm bouncing back and forth between the JL audio 8w3v3 and the 10w1v2. Anyone with suggestions or comments on their own setup? Ideally, I would want a 10w3v3, but it seems like there's no way it would fit.

I heard it's been done, but you'll need a shallow-mount sub that requires low volume. You might be able to get by with a standard depth 10" if you use a spacer.

How thick is the front baffle? The webpage says 1/4". Is that wood or glass? If it is wood, I would say it is too thin for an 8" sub...
I would say it should be 1/2" if it is wood.

I have an alpine 10" Type-X that's considerably deeper then it's diameter. The JBL.. um.. Gti?? subs are like that too... REALLLLLLLY deep.

The point of getting a 10" over an 8" is because you want more volume or "oomph" but even if it physically fits in the stealthbox, there probably won't be much benefit because of the lack of airspace. With subs, surely, size does matter but stuffing a bigger sub into a dinky enclosure isn't the answer. I reckon it's sonically better to stick with a good 8" sub as opposed to trying to cram a 10" into the small stealthbox. A sub is only as good as the enclosure it's installed into.

Well, I have that box with a 8w1v2-4 and it honestly sounds great. Plenty of output for what I listen to, and much cleaner than the 12 I had in there before.

Did you need a riser for the JL def one? or is it fine without it?

I put an 8" polk in mine and it didnt clear the box properly but made it fit. I'd imagine a 10" would be worse.

It's been done, but it does not look right. The diameter of the woofer edge extends outside the width of the stealth box, and does not have much reinforcement on the outside edges. Hence, it may not compress the interior volume of air under heavy load. You'll need a sub with less than 3" mounting depth I think.

Most shallow mount subs require 3-4" of clearance on the outside, but only require .2-.5 of cubic feet inside. For reference, here's my old shallow 10" sub in a .5 cu ft box. Sorry for the oversized pic:
