i wonder if eveyone here knows the difference. i have seen in threads that say "here you go if you need a new wastegate" but its a link for a wastegate actuator. so juast to let people know they ARE different. the function of a wastegate: to let exhaust gasses through the turbo to obtain a certain psi, after that, the wastegate actuator opens the wastegate to allow exhaust to bypass the turbo to hold that psi.

Everyone here is well aware of this. While it is indeed erroneous to say "wastegate" it's typically accepted here as shorthand for "wastegate actuator". Especially on these cars becase the turbos are internally wastegated, which generally not replaceable. So when someone says "You need to replace your wastegate", everyone here knows he/she is referring to the actuator. I don't see the point in arguing semantics.

you would be surprised the number of people that do not even know what a wastegate actuator or just a wastegate is on this forum.

x2. However, you could always just replace the turbine housing if your wastegate (not actuator) failed!

but they are two different things. you wouldn't call a rat a mouse just because they look simualr would you? its the same thing, don't be like a chick and just say what you mean.

This I know because I had to do it!

I was just saying there is no point arguing the semantics in question. Personally, I wil say "wastegate actuator" to avoid confusion but complaining about this is akin to complaing about the use of "EGR" in place of "EGR valve" or "EGR tube" or even the atrocious grammar present on this site every day.

Usually people on here know what you're talking about.. if you have enough basic knowledge on the subject. If you have symptoms of a bad WGA and someone says it's your wastegate, well.. you kinda know they mean your WGA. When someone mentions using "meth injection" on their car, well.. hopefully you know what they're talking about.. as well as when someone mentions that their "lsd" is broke. Just gotta learn what everything is, that's all.

i know what it is and can tell, but its kinda frustrating when i'm try to look for signs of a bad wastegate to research if mine is bad or not and all i keep getting are threads on WGAs

^^^ Ah, so that's why you're angry. What makes you think your actual wastegate is bad? From what I've seen the only way those can go bad is that they can get stuck open or shut (like my old one).

well i have a mystry power problem that i can't figure out and the wastegate might be part of the problem, but i don't know and i wanted to find out all the info i could.

I would think that with a sticky or stuck wastegate you'd be either slow to build boost and/or building too much/not enough boost. This could also indicate a fault with the wastegate actuator as well though.

i replaced the WGA three weeks ago. ckeck out the third vid
http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123729277
but its weird becase it doesn't make that noise anymore soon after i out the WGA in, but i still have my power prob. i still make boost crazy easy and sometimes my boost fluctuates between 6 and 8 and sometimes it holds at 6,7, or 8, but it doesn't pull as hard as it did before the sound came on.
