hey guys, i recently installed a turbo kit on my mp3, but have not had a chance to get it tuned yet. Unfortunately the person who is supposed to tune my car will be away for another month. I tried to turn the boost all the way down to 0 pounds but am unable to do so. Can anyone think of a way to cut all of my boost

yeah, keep your foot off the gas! there is no way to lower the boost all the way down because you can only go as low as your waste gate will let you so if you have a 10psi spring then you cant go lower than 10psi. but keep your foot out of the throttle and you will be fine.

hmmm... if it's internally gated you could probably prop the actuator arm open or remove the actuator all together so the wastegate stays open....
FYI... im just taking a shot in the dark on this one

please don't remove the wastegate or prop the actuator open
just keep your foot off the gas pedal, it's really not that difficult....lol

well I mean it won't hurt anything to do so, but it's WAY more work than it's worth to remove it...and it's definately not a good idea to leave the wastegate propped open forcebly
just leave your foot off the gas, it's not hard lol

lol, if i just finished installing a turbo on my car, it would be dam hard!!!!
Just hold off, it will be worth it in the end,

lol, I did it for quite a while once I finally installed the t3/t4 setup....now that is hard lol

leaving the wastegate actuator open...would that allow the boost to go at any psi or would it still be max psi of what the wastegate allows.

the wastegate is an external tial wastegate. I think its set for something like 5 pounds. I tried removing one of the intercooler pipes in order to create a boost leak lol, but for some odd reason the car just started to stall out.

wow, your kidding right? you just need to put that pipe back on because the reason it was cutting out it two reasons, one: now the maf is doing no good at all and 2: because there is a fucking vac leak the size of texas! really just you will be fine if you keep your foot off the gas.

I was actually gonna suggest that.. cuz when it happens to me on occasion the car runs perfectly fine, just without boost. But then again, my MAF is on the cold pipe right before the TB.. so that's probably why.
It's probably better to just keep your foot off the gas though. Disconnecting an intercooler pipe isn't a good idea unless you slap on an air filter as well. You'll be suckin in all sorts of garbage you don't want in your engine..

hmm so if i relocate the maf sensor then i should be fine

does anyone think that maybe a msp ecu would help me out at all
SeR_Cyclops

yeah man i cant belive we are actually still talking about this the only way to help is to stay out of the throttle or take the turbo kit off.

Yes, but just keep your foot off the gas instead.

Yes. That is by far the easiest way to take care of fuel management when turbocharging a Protege. Just plug it in and you're set.

it might be the easiest but if i were you i would get a AEM FIC, its going to be about the same price as finding a used msp ecu and it will give you alot more options as far as tuning is concerned. i know it works on the msp im sure it would work on the mp3 as well. maybe someone that knows a little bit more than me can chime in.

if it works on the msp then it will on the mp3 ....same harness minus one wire (vtcs)
so are you still running the mp3 ecu with the turbo kit? do you even have a piggyback to be able to tune it?

yeh i have the emanage blue and am running 440cc injectors at the moment so imrunning a little bit richer than normal. Just to give you guys an idea of what im running. a gt28r externally wastegated, and fmic, hks bov, and some other small stuff. Im debating if whether or not i should trade my mp3 ecu for a msp ecu

i just traded mine for a msp ecu plus 50 bucks, im sure you could do the same

tru ill try to do that then

wow... im shocked... KEEP YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS... holy hell are we serious... im done theres my 2 cents!!!

don't relocate the maf...the only reason to relocate the maf is it helps a lot of peeps with the MSP get a little bit smoother of a power band
if you don't have an msp don't do this....just keep your foot off the gas, really
don't remove any boost pipes just keep your foot off the gas

Wow.. on an MP3 ecu. Are you forged or have you thought about it? I'd think you'd be smart to get a MSP ecu as a good start.. that would have been the first thing I would have done before putting on the turbo kit, 440s, etc.

yeh, just to make sure the msp ecu does run alot richer than the mp3 ecu correct
neox.286
02-01-2009, 12:53 AM
yes, plus the msp ecu is designed to properly compensate for boost...the mp3 ecu is not mapped to compensate for boost
Mutmatt
02-01-2009, 01:59 AM
hmm so if i relocate the maf sensor then i should be fine
no... the boost will still be created and your ecu will not be able to tune for that... get tuned or do NOT boost
