Steve Saleen's SMS outfit is ready to take the SMS 570 Challenger and SMS 570X Challenger into production.
These will be the first vehicles produced in SMS's Signature Series line, which will also include high-performance versions of the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro.

The 570 and 570X Challenger are based on the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and will feature a host of SMS performance parts including the SMS Red Butterfly Induction hood and the SMS 296 Supercharger.

The SMS 296 Supercharger sits atop of the Challenger's 5.7 liter Hemi engine and will boost power to 500 horses for the 570, while taking the 570X to a raging 700 hp.

SMS Challengers will also come with new components to improve suspension and aerodynamics. SMS editions also including new wheels, tires an cabin tuning with premium leather.

The SMS 570 and 570X Challenger are scheduled to go into production this month. Prices are 60,000 US dollars for the SMS 570 and 70,000 for the 570X.

Both vehicles will be available for order from your local Dodge dealer.

Nice looking car but I still can't get myself over these chargers and challengers. Are they going for performance or aesthetics? Huge front ends to fit those massive engines with tiny asses. I mean any car can be fast and these huge engines are certainly capable of putting down some great numbers. Stock however they simply dont compete with other cars in the same price range. They can at least try a LITTLE bit to design the actual car to perform rather than just the engine. Thats why corvettes are so great . . .

agreed, that does look so bad ass and reminds me of my friends dads challanger. but they do need to step up their game to get them selling.

i dont care how fast they make that thing, the Exterior is far too disproportionate and the interior is far too bland and unsophisticated :/

This car is emblematic of what is so annoying about American cars.

Amazing engine.
(blarf) chassis

IMO the retro-classic thing is nothing more than an admission that American car makers have run out of good design ideas. Of course, the 1970s muscle cars were not exactly classic Itallian roadsters.

*bows* i am speechless by your insightful wisdom :)

I wonder what goes through the heads of those engineers . . . "Lets put this super engine into the biggest piece of shit we can find"

The muscle car era is over for a reason. Fine if companies still want to produce a few limited edition tribute muscle cars for the collectors but come on. With the economy the way it is they are still coming out with these . . .

You people are to funny. I remember the days when the old musculecars from the late 60s and early 70s were on the roads when I was a kid. Long fronts and short rears. Its call the coke bottle design.

I love it. Seen the car in person and I have to say it's one mean looking machine.

I like it and think its the best looking late model muscle car version. Muscle cars are not for everyone and neither are exotics. Its not like they are going to sell enough of either brand to resuce the Big 3 though.

For all of the people that do not have the near $1m to pony up for an authentic muscle car, this is a good option for a lot less dough.

I think that is pretty much the case. I just saw a brand new SRT8 Challenger in person last week and I was very unimpressed (on top the jerk used 2 parking spaces like if he was driving a Ferrari, douche)

Yes, this one is much better and I like the paint but not really my cup of tea I guess...

I've driven both a Challenger Hemi R/T and a SRT-8. Both need better handling in my book. But I did enjoy driving them. Very entertaining in the raw horsepower in a straight line.

You obviously have no concept as to what a "muscle car" is...

A big metal box on wheels with a huge engine is what a "typical" muscle car is. Unless there is some hidden secret only the americans can find.

im not american :(.

A few examples (the first being my favorite)

http://www.pictures-of-cars.com/Mussel-Car.jpg

Muscle cars were originally defined as simple, affordable cars with enormous engines. They were separated from sports cars because it was said the average "Joe" could purchase one. The first muscle cars were hyped-up versions of family cars already offered on the market. The term is typically only applied to American-made cars with V8 engines. Although there are many "modern" muscle cars that are said to exist the term typiically applies to those cars made between 1963 and 1972 (roughly).

I dont really mind the apperance. Everyone has his or her tastes but when you pay 70K+ for a shelby 500, charger srt-8, etc, it gets a little excessive.

This is exactly why I don't consider these "muscle cars". The cars I posted easily cost less than $5000 USD back in the day.

Yeah I understand your point but what I was getting at was the performance aspect. Call it whatever you want but its the styling that holds back a lot of these cars.

700hp from the factory is pretty extreme. I'm not a fan of auto-tragic transmission tho. If it had a real automatic racing trans that you had to shift the gears yourself then that would be nice.
