I've been touing with the idea of painting the inside of the headlights orange to match my car when we have them opened to do the projector light conversion. I tried to Photo shop some pics of painted headlights but I just keep painted the whole thing versus just the area behind the cover. I haven't learned how to PS in deeper dimensions yet. Here are some pics of what I have planned for the hood and grill areas and some of what I'm looking to do with the headlights.

i've only seen 2 cars with the inside inserts painted
but, both were Pro5's one red and one white
If you're going to be doing CF on the hood or just black?
Cause if it is black or CF, i don't think the orange headlights would flow so well.
Another question, what setup are you going with for projector and shroud?
Are you making a replica of the Retrofitsource headlight?

I've been chatting with Chico about this The outer section of the hood will be CF inner section spicy, I'm still debating whether I want to go with CF DG grill, or orange painted FG one. Today I'm leaning toward CF. The area around the headlight will be CF like the 3rd pic but the black plastic portion will be orange, so it'll match the theme on the hood. I'm looking at the gatlin gun style bezel. The fact that light shines through the outer vents on that style might look sick.

Chicoloco is who did my retrofit
edit- i realize now you're not talking headlights, but rather the hood

it really is not all that much light.
You'll prob not really notice it actually, compared to the light coming out of hte projectors themselves
Here's a set on a Tundra

The third pic you posted looks like an E55 shroud with a CF lined bucket

I am talking Headlights. I posted the pics of the hood and grill to show the theme I'm looking to get.
The 3rd pic is an E55 shrouds I have yet to see a gatlin gun style on a protege. I didn't know the terms till now but I like the CF bucket look. I'm just hoping that the Oragne insert will look good with it. If I had better PhotoShopping skills I'd be able to put it all together and see how it all looked, but I can't.
So recap: looking for Gatlin Gun style bezel, CF bucket, and orange insert.

theretrofitsource.com sells gatlin gun style shrouds, as well as quite a few others
the CF bucket is actually CF inlays, it is not a whole bucket.

outlaw, you get dude from Hawaii's CF headlight covers???
and those projectors posted were built by "THERETROFITSOURCE"those covers are for show only, can't really drive with them, I want the headlights in the first post with the carbonfiber, but non projection cause that's like 700$ more haha. I might buy a headlight and start doing some overlays

but, uhm, those are able to be CF cause they aren't reflecting any light........

Thus.. projectors?? So basically if you tried it with normal ones you wouldn't have hardly any light since it's not reflecting off of anything? Questioning my theory..
but, uhm, those are able to be CF cause they aren't reflecting any light........

Just put the J-SPEC (JDM) 'Sport 20' HID Headlights (2001+) from Cork Sport it's just 1400$ but very sharp...
mx-p5
01-30-2009, 08:44 AM
for $1400, i could have Acura TL setups in both cars
but, yeah, you need the reflector bucket to put out light in a standard halogen setup
The projector has it's own reflectors inside and all the light comes out through the lens

whats the rough price?
is there more info/thread on these? i know someone in my area that does retros and would like to compare.. looks like great workmanship! good job

I'll let Chico post up his prices if he so chooses. Projector retrofits are expensive considering the cost of the supplies in general. A TL projector with ballasts ect, can run $200 + I have yet to see all the parts needed go for less then $150 combined. The price that he gave me was great compared to what I've seen, and I know his shit is done right cause a few on this board have them.
Do I wish I could do them myself...Yes
Do I want to risk fucking up the projectors or my headlights...No?

I found a pontaic G8 at teh chicago auto show sporting my idea of the painted insert, and it happened to be painted Mazda Spicy Orange. So I acyually got a few shots of how the car would actually look. I like it.
