View Full Version : Which short-ram intake?

I live in Oregon where even the sunshine is wet, so I can't make sense of a CAI.... too much risk of suckin' water into the engine. I've had the Perrin foam filter intake since I got the car, but want to try something different that looks better with the hood up.

So I'm looking for advice, opinions and personal experiences with short ram intakes... which one should I get?

I'm running the MAM SRI along with the FMIC. It's a nice set-up, and looks really nice Shiny black. I don't like all that bling under the hood

Take a look at my Weapon*R Secret Weapon Intake (http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123731767). I like it so far.

In all reality making your own isn't to hard to do. My MAM intake is just a pipe with one bend in it, and a K&N mounted on top. You should be able to buy a similar pipe off E-bay for damn near nothing.

Thanks Grendel,
BUT only the last pic opens and its too close-up to get the idea... Is there any way you could take a pic showing most of the engine compartment so I can see how the Weapon R fits in? Thanks!

The Injen CAI can be converted into SRI quite easily. Just drill another hole into the first pipe for the IAT, and the rest is simple. Or make your own like I did. A couple pipes and silicone couplers and you're done.

I have checked out the turbohoses sri, and it is very clean looking... but also very spendy.

Make me love it..... tell me how it changed things. Noticeable increase in hp and torque? Sweeter Sound? Is it a little louder? A lot?

Thanks,
Doug

or you can actually mount the iat in the filter element... drill a hole in the rubber on the back next to the coupler...

Or that..

That's how I had my first SRI setup on my P5.

hm... the best part about it is the intake filter, its a sweet design :D and the fit of the intake is darn near perfect. and the sound, well i installed hard pipes at the same time :X but the sound did get better because i heard more "woosh" Sound, which i think any intake would make it sound. but sadly for performance i cant say anything either, because i have no clutch mainly hahahha. :(

But the design is nice, and it looks sweet :D

I'm running Injen SRI with a custom heatshield. Of all the SRI I refer the Injen because the filter sits a far away from the turbo as possible (close to the fender), hence away from the heat. Intake alone will increase the swoosh sound which I love. Here are some pics.

I had a tuner shop make it for me. They did an excellent job coz with the hood shut it creates an air-tight seal. The air comes in from the hole where the CAI pipe passes. If you'ld like one let me know and I'll findout how much $. When he made mine, he did alot more stuff (custom oil catch can, radiator overflow can to name a few) so I don't recall how much the heat shield by itself cost.

Pics of mine.. gotta replace the cheap clamp and probably the bolts on the side of the filter housing.. can't stand rust.

I love the carbon fiber intake but I like the larger collector on mine :)

I'll see what I can do, for some reason the pics open in Firefox, but not IE. It may have to wait until lunch!

Thanks for the pics & insights... I'd still like to see more pics of the turbohoses SRI and the Weapon-R SRI.

Anybody else have an opinion to share?
