Brit buff mag Autocar says that Porsche is readying a lightweight version of the new Cayman, with plans to create a single-make racing series for it as it already does with the 911. The Porsche Cayman Clubsport, as it'll reportedly be called, will weigh 220 pounds (100 kg) less than the standard-issue car. The weight savings will come via a stripped interior, lighter bodywork and wheels, and a "simplified" lighting system. Engine/transmission changes aren't expected to be part of the go-fast recipe, but the 314-horsepower six that's fitted to new Cayman S ought to deliver more than ample punch in the lighter Clubsport. Autocar says that a price premium of £4K is expected over the regular Cayman S, and that the car should arrive in the UK market in October. Porsche finally gives the Cayman S an engine that makes it a legit alternative consideration to the 911, and now it seems ready to turn up the heat even further with a lightweight version. Man, where do we sign up?

that angle makes the car look way better than it actually does.

I was thinking that too, but I didn't want to say it... I'm glad I'm not crazy though.

not really.

its a cross b/w the 911 and the boxster. its not very imaginative at all.

none of porsches designs are that great. (not counting the GT) the GT2 and GT3RS will turn my head, but other than that its just a porsche to me.

I think people feel they need to like porsches when they see them for the same reason people think all ferraris are beautiful just because its a ferrari.

An example of this would be the new california. It just looks plain awkward to me. Would i drive it? i certainly would not turn down the keys, but overall i think the F430 and 599 look way better than the california, but people love it just because it says ferrari

I've always thought the Enzo was hideous, and base 911s and Boxsters don't do it for me. I've loved the Cayman since the first time I saw one in person, though. Something about the lines of the rear fender makes me want to hump it.

I wasn't a 911 fan until I drove an '06 carerra.

That sold me. It is a fantastic vehicle. I agree the styling isn't very imaginative, but it is a tremendous car to drive.

woo woo dont bring the enzo into this porche debate, i think its a amazing looking car, but then again i am a large fan of F1 and the enzo is basically an f1 car with body panels.

i like the cayman, but i do think the looks are getting bland with porches, that being said i would buy one in a heartbeat if i had the chance
