Guys,

Sorry to ask you this, but I have seen in this forum, some pics of a few guys who modified their back lights / turn signal, etc... with LEDs.

Although, I can't seem to locate these pics... Can somebody help? It would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jasma.

Hey Dima,

Did you install LEDs on the bottom "reflectors" too? How did you do that? What kind of socket did you use?

And do you see a big diff with the LEDs compared to the standard bulbs that you had, for your back lights? (flasher, reverse and brake)?

actually you can find the LED lit reflectors on ebay most of the time, they are the same part as the ones for the mazda3 they also make them in clear those are the ones im looking for or even the smoked ones.

yup, ebay it is, that's where I bought mine. Just like nismospeed says, they are the same as for Mazda 3 rear sidemarkers

Frick, the coolness of dima's project will eat me until I follow suit.

Dima,

I would presume that you wired your lit reflectors to your factory parking lights wires? Are they also getting brighter when you brake? Or are they simply parking lights? It looks really sharp, all you did! I'm anxious to receive my LEDs that should arrive any time this week or beginning of next week...

LOL, thank you guys.
Those are just driving lights for now, but I'm going to be making them to work as a brake lights as well

Dima did you keep the standard fog lights? I'm just looking at your avatar right now. I've heard of people putting LED clusters in to replace those types of lights as well.

I have 18xLED bulbs in my fogs to match my HIDs

That's brilliant. Depending on price I may get a yellow set to see how it looks, but I have a feeling I'll be sticking with a true white color.

So I was looking around and found this it is a flexible LED lighting strips that look like from the new Audi R8 here is some of the specifications

- They are fully waterproof and can be mounted outside or inside your car.

- They are very easy to wire up as you just have 2 wires to connect to a 12volt supply. You can connect them to your side lights or even your inside door courtesy lights.

- These LEDs can be cut every third LED as long as you seal the ends with some silicone sealant.

The Flexible Bullet Style LED Strips come in 4 sizes

Ultra White Strips 24CM

Ultra White Strips 48CM

Ultra White Strips 72CM

Ultra White Strips 96CM

so here is some of the pics

and no, I didn't remove the shield. BTW, these fog bulbs match my HIDs and my HIDs are 8000K, so at least you know what color I get with the fog lights

Very nice.

How about brightness and pattern? I know factory fogs are more like cornering lights.

Did you guys have to put resistors in for the LEDs?

these fog lights are just for looks only, they don't provide much light. I have enough light from my HIDs. I also know if you manage to remove the little shield in the fog light assembly, you will get a lot more light.

no resistors needed for that, just simple bulb replacement. The only time you will need resistor added if you use LED bulb for turn signals and don't want it to blink faster than usual.

A lot of guys in Japan are doing complete LED refits with the older style tails. Pretty nice and I'd probably do the same if I had the old style, but I have the newer stock LEDs which I'm satisfied with. Besides, I'm not all too familiar with LED circuit boards and resistors and I'd probably frustrate the hell out of myself taking on this project.

If you do put LEDs in the turn signals and want to add resistors, where do you add them? And will one set (say on the back left) suffice for front and back? Has anyone done this and if so how do they look? Are they bright enough to be seen in daylight? Thanks.

That looks really good, I wonder if we can just buy them somewhere?

It's completely DIY. I'll try to look up a how to that someone posted with links to the materials used, i.e. LEDs, LED reflectors, circuit boards, and resistors. Translation might not be all that great but I'll give it a shot.

Most of that stuff can be acquired here in the US. I'm in Korea right now and one of the hottest mods you can do here is make your own custom LED tails with your own design. I see custom tails everyday.

P2K,

If you have the chance to take a few pictures, we would be interested to see what kind of mods they do down there!

No problem, but most of the cars here are Hyundai, Kia, and Daewoo. I don't know if you'd be interested in them, but I'll take pics and post if you want. One car in particular that I found interesting was the new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. It's badged as a Daewoo Lacetti over here and it's already out. It looks awesome in person. They've already started modding them.

I saw one that looked so good the other day I thought about trading in the MS3 for one when I got back. It looked that good, seriously. All it had done were wheels and suspension. It was on display at the local train station and I'll take pics the next time I go there.

Every car here, I've seen with custom LED tails at some point. No matter what it was. From the biggest SUVs down to the smallest K-car. The new Genesis coupe and sedan were on these roads long before they were in the US and I see them a dime a dozen. They even have custom LED tails and LED conversion kits for the tails(DIY) for the Genesis Coupe, and aftermarket is rising faster everyday for it. It's the #1 tuner car here and it's selling like hotcakes. I even thought about trading in for the Genesis Coupe too.

P2K,

That would be great if you could post some pics... It doesn't matter if they are not M-5s... for most of us, we own another model too!

Thanks.

I remember seeing your thread a while back, they look great. It's a shame they're completely custom. If they were mass produced, I think they would sell pretty well.
