Nissan's Inventory Storage

http://static.guim.co.uk/Guardian/business/gallery/2009/jan/16/automotive/xnissan-6163.jpg

If there were ever a sign of these troubled times in the automobile industry, this is it. The photo you're looking at was taken recently at Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd, the largest car plant in the United Kingdom and the most productive in Europe. Well, it may be productive, but with supply outpacing demand, Nissan has apparently been left with too much stock. The factory's parking lots are overfilled, so they've begun parking cars on the facility's test track. Of course, that means Nissan can't use the track to test new cars, but if nobody's buying them, that ought to be the least of their worries.

Now if only they stocked trucks like that in the US! Then I might be able to get the model and options I want!

well with all these stupid ass buy outs you'd think they would lower the prices on the vehicles just to get rid of them. maby if they did that the banks would be more leinient with the lowns and more people would go apply to get that new vehicle they've been wanting. its crazy. i bet all the vp's are rolling in expensive ass company vehicles and still flying around in private jets.

They may have to update this TV ad, so it shows the Altimas zig-zagging around the inventory and trying to find a spot to park on the track, lol

Oh well, some companies have stopped production all together, it is a generalized effect, just timing and forecasting is key.

nissan wasnt apart of any bailout... why should they have to lower prices, or not drive around in fancy cars?

because if they were smart, before they need a bail out, they would. look at gm......and the others.

Not the same, but Jaguar and Land Rover (owned by Tata, an Indian company) have been asking for bailout money to the UK government. Different historical reasons, but if companies have an extensive labor contract in the US it might apply.

Everything rolls down to employment in the State they are in. State Legislators, Governors, etc. would try to do whatever is possible to keep employers, and that might go all the way to Congress...

Now, getting the money for it, different story :D
