calling all with RPMC turbo inlet or other inlets

as the title says, im looking into a turbo inlet. knowing cobb im sure they're inlet wont be out for some time. anyone with the RPMC inlet or other chime in. any pros and cons? whats your likes and dislike? how much and where did you get it?

my only advice would be to stay away from the APS inlet, It is engineered for the stock intake and will leave an open nipple with an aftermarket intake. Cobb fortewin

yeah im looking for something with the best match up to my injen cai. i haven't heard much about the RPMC. or even what the advantages or disadvantages are with alum or a silicone inlet.

i have a custom made one bouhght here off the forums. paid $75 shipped.

it makes the turbo much much louder. If you have that injen cold air intake as you do... i have the mazdaspeed cold air intake and it becaiuse twice as loud, seriously. So if your injen makes a nice sucking sound it should get much much louder as my intake did.

the bov got quieter, which was the only downside, but the car had that extra ooompff when you get on it. A great mod. its like adding 2 cold air intakes to me with the way the sound is.

yeah the injen is redicously loud haha. seems like the $230 for the rmpc is a bit steep...but performance/quality wise if its worth it i wouldnt mind. i havent talked to anyone running one yet.

i have a rmpc with a cpe - nano and it turns heads like you would not believe the car sounds like a jet plane when the turbo spools but i am havin boost leak issues i think it my bpv so i bought a forge one but it isnt in yet so i dono but still it sounds amazing while i am only holdin 10 psi

I've got the RPMC and the Injen CAI. No complaints here, the sound is even better with the inlet. It definitely hits boost faster. I recommend the upgrade.

My advice is if you really want an inlet, buy the cheapest one that fits. These turbo inlets are grossly overpriced for the hp gains they provide. As far as I can tell with my RPMC inlet, it just makes more noise. If it does make a few more hp, I can't feel it. Maybe it would be more significant with more mods, but with my Cobb SRI and ETS TMIC, I felt absolutely no gain in power. The turbo 'may' start spooling a little bit earlier, but I normally don't hammer the throttle below 2.5-3k RPM anyway and the turbo pretty much makes full boost by 3k. All I know is I payed about $25 more for this inlet than I payed for my Cobb SRI, but probably got 25whp less power gain. I think my $200+ would have been better spent on some new motor mounts. There was another inlet out there (I forget the name), that was abit cheaper than the RPMC and looked to be of better quality (rolled ends to hold the tubes better and nicer welds). The RPMC isn't bad, but like I said, all of these inlets are overpriced for two pieces of madrel bent tubes, cut and welded together. Mandrel bent lengths of 2.5" aluminum tubing cost about $25-30 a piece. The problem is aluminum requires TIG welding, which is expensive equipment and requires abit of skill to master, but I would say that materials are WELL under $100 to make one of these. Ya gotta wonder how you can buy a Corksport intake for $239 that comes with an inlet, a machined MAF housing, filter, and all hardware and then people charge $200+ for just an inlet alone (and Corksports inlet is madrel bent - all one piece, no welds).

I put the RPMC on my car (stock except for a MSCAI) last weekend and second absolutely everything FrequentFlyer said.

I'll make passes with and without it in the spring when the track opens, but that's still 3 months away.

Note that this is NOT a slam on the RPMC part because it's obviously a much better tract than the stock piece is. It's just that the stock piece likely still has a larger cross section than the turbo inlet and therefore isn't going to be as restrictive as it may look.

I have to say I dont like that inlet pictured here. The problem I am seeing is that the BOV dump tube is very close to the MAF and comes in at nearly a 90 degree angle.

When you shift you are going to get a large gust of air entering that pipe at the same time that the intake is not flowing much. That could cause the allready metered that is being dumped to back up across the MAF sensor. This may then cause the ECU to provide more fuel than neccessary creating a rich condition.

I used to drive a DSM and some of the dump tubes that were that close would cause a large amount of smoke during shifts. It was finally determined that this was the cause. Most of the other intakes that had the dump tube closer to the turbo and directed downstream did not suffer the same result.

I agree with uhateit, great mod and easy to install and uninstall. Glad I bought my rpmc turbo inlet well worth the money too me. Except my bpv sounds louder with the turbo inlet

Yeah, CorkSport sells their SRI with a turbo inlet, but it doesn't look like it will perform as well as the RPMC turbo inlet. However, anything is better than our plastic stock turbo inlet.
