2003 automatic p5

leaving a parking lot and i heard kaplunk! and my gears sound really bad and im not getting any momentum. engine is fine. the car sounds soo bad and pretty much doesnt work in reverse and drive.

does any one know how much it would be?

im not sure if its the driveshaft or tranny or maybe even both : /

but has this happend to anyone? im just worried on the price of the repair

wat does it sound like when you press te gas, is it like a grinding or a bad knocking?

grinding and some other weird loud noises

if its more of a grinding, it's probably the tranny, and the fact that you dont have a drive or reverse gears points to the tranny, check you drive shaft, if theres nothing wrong with them then its the tranny, sorry bout your luck man they aint that cheep

idk for sure man, I'm no mechanic either, just goin off of experience with wat your sayin. I'd say no cheeper than 1200 tho for an automatic, I'v never owned an auto so Im probably wrong.

I'm saying at least $2000 in repairs. . .

GiJoe

it may just be 2000 just in the tranny lol yet another reason ive never owned an auto.
thats a good lookin 5 tho man im digin that from lip not to mention the msp wheels.

When I was looking at rebuilding the auto in my old p5 i got est from 1.6-2.3k for a complete rebuild. Now you can get a built trans from Lentech for 1.8k or was it 2k to handle way more power then the p5 has stock(that is if you want to boost it later down the road).

I'm guessing you never seen a repair bill with a new clutch, flywheel, syncros, and a gear on a standard trans....(cusin botched up his cavy)

Not that im aware of.... I don't even think the auto and the standards use the same gears.

You might as well swap in a manual tranny while you're there.

im sure gearing is the same but you can get different stall speeds on the converter and yes you can do tip tronic.. according to most shops the tiptronic is a reg auto with extra electronics.

yeah, thats a lot of extra work not to mention you still have to splice into the dash harness.

Your cheapest way out would be: Find a used transmission, I usually use car-part.com (http://car-part.com). They should have some with low miles for $400-$600, contact the dealer or a shop you prefer and see how much it would be to install it(usually around $400-$500). Have the transmission shipped to the dealer/shop and ur done. Once it makes it to wherever, it only takes a day to remove and replace.

yeah but then you may run into the problem of bad gears, or the whole tranny may be shot.

That can happen but just like used engines you can get them with a warrenty to depending on the place and milage of the trans.

1195 just for a rebuild with no "hard" parts +what ever is needed.

or basically 2 grand for a "rebuilt" tranny swap.

depends on what they see. so yea. : /

Oh dear.

Well...quit doing neutral drops and if you want to drive "aggressive", get something with more balls.
