2001 auto trans f'ed up

ok so the other day my cars transmission started to act weird.
well 1st and second gear are ok but when my car goes into third it just revs real high (like 6500 rpm) then pulls and acts weird.
what could be the problem?
clutches?
valve body?
what?
any info will be a real big help

yea i got the problem resovled i ended up dropping the trans at my house and rebuilding it.
what had happened was the 3-4 clutch pack and drum were burnt up so i only had drive 1-2 reverse park and netural.

I dont know about wusses and all that...but they are hella boring...when you just want to sit in your car, and sip coffee on your way to work, autos are the hot ticket, but if you ever want to enjoy driving, autos definetly suck

It all depends on where you live and what time you're on the road. There are people here in the San Diego area that sit in traffic for 45 minutes every day. Try that with a clutch for a few months and you'll switch over, quickly. I leave home early, so traffic isn't too bad, but I have to admit that driving an auto-tranny car a couple of times a week is a nice change.
