Wheeldude, I think i want to go with the G-force in a gunmetal 18x8.5 for my 09 MS3..I want to use the Falken ZE-912 in a 225-45-18..this wouldn't be to much of a difference from a 225-40 would it? O'h yeah are the wheels available without ordering them??

The only difference with running 225/40's from 225/45's is that the 225/45's are taller. The 225/40's will look a little stretched on an 8.5" width wheel. Depending on offset, you might have to roll your rear fenders.

235/40s + roll rear fenders = win

215/45 plus spacers depending on offset plus rolled fenders = win

Im definitely going to roll the rear fenders..after putting the Eibach Pro Kit on I can see that it won't take to much to start rubbing when i finally decide what wheels and tires to go with.

I dont suggest running a 45, I suggest running a 40
If you want a 45, then stretch a 215

Is that because the wheel is 18x8.5 instead of 18x7.5 or 18x8?

no, that is because it's a tall tire in general, 225/40/18 is the size you would be running
a 225/45/18 would be for a bigger car, like a camry or something

im running 225/45/18's on the stock wheels...

+ Zero up sizing on your car should be a 225.40.18
While it may be possible, that is not the correct tire size to use

Wait a min. Isn't the stock Ms3 wheel the same as the stock MS6 wheel... 18x7 55 offset? And running the same size tires... 215/45 18? If so... 225/40 aren't recommended for an 18x7 wheel as the sidewall to width is too short. To make matters worse... besides the weaker sidewall, your speedo will be off like mad (optimistic). I have some winters in 225/40 (bought wrong size) and when running them my speedo is off by a significant amount by the time I hit 80mph... checked it by gps. 225/45 are slightly taller, but still closer in size to a 215/45 than a 225/40 is in diameter...
Some info from the other forum
Just use this formula
(width of tire X Aspect Ratio) X 2 + (Tire height in mm) = height of the tire
For example,
215/45/18 = 650.70mm (Stock)
225/40/18= 637.20mm
225/45/18= 659.70
235/40/18= 645.20mm
the 235/40 would be your best size as far as the closest to oem height.
I run 235/40/18 on H&Rs and the rear WILL need a roll but thats on a 8 inch wheel witha 45mm offset.
If you have stockers, it may work but 235s on a 7.5 wheels is just ugly and meaningless.
Your best bet would be oem size or if you wanna go a bit wider the 225/40/18 would be ideal but is gonna be a bit smaller than oem.
you never wanna go bigger than stock unless you don't care about performance.
hope this helps
The manufacturer's spec for the 215/45R18 Bridgestone RE050 on 7" rims is 811 revolutions per mile; the manufacturer's spec for the 245/40R18 Sumitomo HTR Z III on 8.5" rims is 805 revolutions per mile. The tire calculators are approximate, and cannot take into account the difference between "same size" tires caused by the granularity of tire sizing (section widths are required to be stated only in 10 mm increments, aspect ratios in 5% increments); the manufacturer's spec on revolutions per mile is the real measured deal. Of course, after a couple of thousand miles of wear, the actual diameter will be reduced by fractions, and the number of revolutions per mile will creep up.

I run the HTRZ IIIs in 225/40 on my stock MS3 wheels, mainly because I wasn't willing to spend the money on the tires that have 215/45 sizes, since I only need them to bridge me to when I have enough to spend on new wheels and tires.
It's been 5k miles and the difference is very small and hardly noticeable. I've upped the PSI by 2-3psi and it helps to keep the sidewalls more ridged but there's still a little bit of mush compared the RE050's 215.
The wheels I'm getting are 18x8.5 45 offset, w/ 235/40s. My suspension will remain stock, but will need to roll the rears.

As I said... I have 225/40 on 18x7 stock wheels for my winters. You're not supposed to pair that match up together... but I do the same as you and just keep the tire pressure up. Not recommended, but works in a pinch. WheelDude is trying to say that 225/40 is the right size to use with 18x7 stock wheels, but he is incorrect. "Not recommend" means not recommended by the tire and wheel manufacturers.
Additionally even if you get bigger aftermarket wheels... 18x7.5 or 18x8... 225/45 are just as plentiful as 225/40, cost less than stock 215/45 and... the important point... the diameter is closer to stock 215/45 than 225/40 are. I was really surprised when I was driving from MI to FL on my snows and checked my speedo against my gps... at 80mph there is not a minor, but a significant difference... which will only increase as you go faster.

Thanks Zoeb, I might have to re-think on these, if there that hard to get and one of them gets bent by chance i might be waiting for a long time to get a replacement...and i definitely don't want that. I already had to replace one of the stock wheels!(cryhard)
