8.5 and 09 already have that...or did the title really mean "hey 8.5 and 09 owners, us 07 and 08 owners can get piano black trim now. Jealous?"

i am confused as well.... normal for me, though...

i saw a photo of one with carbon fiber stuff that looked cool... kinda goes against my idea of what that stuff should really be used for, though (lightweight body panels, parts, etc.)

Yea...and it especially hurts when fake cf comes from the factory on something like a dodge caravan (my mother)

i have yet to find any mazda3 dash kits that are piano black(shiney and smooth) not sure what you are talking about. all the metra dash kits for the mazda 3 are that rough black and gray material in the 07's and 08s

fiber looks cheap. i dont care what car its in

i am still confused...you're title is saying that piano black dash kits are going to be created for 8.5 and 09 owners, when the piano trim is already standard in all of the mazda3 and mazdaspeed3 vehicles 8.5 or newer anyway.

so the only things i can deduce is that either you're looking for some piano black trim OEM style for 07 or 08 and therefore your title wording is incorrect, or you know of an aftermarket trim company that has a better quality piano black trim than the OEM stuff.

just trying to get some clarification

I assume the OP meant a dash kit to replace the factory radio and provide a 'standard' size mounting location; thus, you would need a piano black finish to match the existing trim ('08.5, '09) when you put in a 'dash kit' and install aftermarket headunits or other electronic equipment.

Correct me if I am wrong....

Why is this hard to understand? He's gauging interest in getting dash kits for aftermarket HUs that match the existing piano black trim in '08.5-'09 cars.

He admitted his error. Time to move on.

This is great news! I was considering trying to paint my Metra kit to match the piano finish. I'm sure Metra would do a much better job than I would. I'll give them a call myself.

To anyone curious as to what the regular Metra dash kit looks like in an 08.5, here's a pic of mine:

you could always just paint everything. i have seen a couple cars with painbted trim peices and it looks good. just make sure you prep properly

Hehe yea. I'm with you. But I had to do something about the laughable sound from the Sport model... plus I had the headunit sitting around and it has handsfree bluetooth support which is a must for me when driving stick.

The piano black pieces are very glossy. It would be very hard to match it yourself. If it's even the slightest bit off, it won't look right.

Oakland, don't feel bad. I was also a little confused about the OP's intent, since the 08.5/09 comes with piano black. So I assumed he meant it was for additional trim in the cabin or something. Then when I read more carefully that he had spoken to Metra, I remembered that Metra makes dash kits for replacing the radio.

One reason I have not pulled the trigger on a replacement head unit so far is that I really dig the piano black & don't want to fark it all up with some cheap looking flat black plastic. I was going to talk to a paint shop to see if they thought they could replicate the piano black finish, but now I may just call Metra instead.

Well after talking to Metra it appears the cost to duplicate the Piano Black finish would be significantly more expensive. This is currently the best kit on the market, despite losing some of the factory controls:

...plus another 22 for the piano black finish. I have seen this kit installed in person. Best kit hands down (next to OEM).
