(smash) OK, so my car is idling very erratic and it's backfiring inside of the intake as it idles. Kind of like a clunk clunk clunk clunk...it accelerates fine and all. I cleaned my MAF, and I threw some plugs in it just for the hell of it...still the backfire remains! this is a really really mind boggling thing! can anyone relate to this or help? (smash)

That's not a misfire code that is lean at idle which many times is due to a vac leak. Start by trying to spray some carb cleaner around the tb and im and listen for a raise in idle.

I know that the misfire isn't a p0171, I was just stating that I have that code as well as the backfire....

MSP with a blown WGA can also trigger that code.

the misfire is fixed...my faulty power steering pump was dragging down my engine and making it miss really bad...maybe the belt was too tight? the pump had been bad for a while...(which is a real pain in the a$$ to steer while sitting still.) Anyhow, I still have to replace my WGA and get a new PS pump or if anyone can sell me one??
