Has anybody else encountered a situation where the gear indicator on the instrument panel rapidly oscillates between 1st and 2nd gears. The other day when I was driving in the snow, I hit the brakes and the ABS activated while I was going less than 10mph. That's when I saw the gear indicator oscillate.
My theory is that when the brakes were locked up, the speed sensor assumed I was stopped, so it downshifted to 1st. But then when the ABS released the brake, the speed sensor determined it needed to upshift to 2nd. Just a theory. I hope that while this was happening the transmission wasn't actually trying to shift. I can't imagine that would be good for the transmission.
Sounds like a transmission software bug to me.
