Having some major probs with the speed3

A few weeks ago I got a new EBC and and it started overboosting and as I was going uphill started hearing this loud knocking sound comming from the engine, and I have some strong vibration comming from the clutch pedal when I depress it.

Its NOT rod knock, I know because I let the car run and removed each spark plug on at a time and the knocking didn't go away. After that I took off the valve cover and noticed the timing chain was pretty loose. I was able to lift it up about 1/2" and also slightly move it from side to side. If that’s the prob, how would a loose timing chain cause the clutch pedal to vibrate?

What all would cause the vibration in the clutch and loud knocking? Please help me out guys, I have over 50k miles so the warranty is out of the question.

I would say that the throw out bearing is shot, which would indicate that pressure plate teeth will be next.

Would that cause loud knocking?

Also, the clutch engages fine. I have no problems putting it in gear, just shakes alot...

You could easily have bent a rod which WILL cause the vibration when depressing the clutch. Loud knocking uphill was likely detonation which is how the rod bent. Your description is textbook duplicate of other's who had engine failure shortly afterwards. Check the threads, find out.

You could easily have bent a rod which WILL cause the vibration when depressing the clutch. Loud knocking uphill was likely detonation which is how the rod bent. Your description is textbook duplicate of other's who had engine failure shortly afterwards. Check the threads, find out.

Its not rod knock... I let the car run and removed each spark plug one at a time and the knocking didn't go away. If it was a bent rod the knocking would go away once I remove the plug..

How does removing the spark plug, stop a bent rod from knocking(ugh)(homework) If there is a rod knock i can see removing the plug maybe to take some of the load off of the cylinder, but it won't make a bent rod not knock.............overboosting ruins motors:mad:

Remove all mods and take it in to the dealership for a diagnosis.
Doesn't seem like you have many options. At least you'd know what you are up against.

To me it def sounds like you bought a EBC with a bad solenoid that caused overboosting. You def have rod knock and you possibly jumped timing if the timing chain was that loose, which will also cause rod knock, bent valves and a blown motor. Either way if you can hear loud knocking even w/o sparkplug in there is 85-90% chance you have bent your rod, so all you can do is hope that your ecu didnt record or they dont check to see if you hit higher than factory psi. Anyway if you have the money perfect time for a fully built block, if not.....good luck bud.

I believe i may have the same problem, the sound is somewhat of a chatter only sounding under acceleration, and not in nuetral, car must be moving. if a rod was bent would it chatter constantly, and correlate with rpm of the engine

nothing from the clutch though, have you found out anything else and does anyone know the easiest way to determine

This is the last thing he should do. This is the same thing that Subaru owners back in 02 were doing with wrx's that has lead to the denial of many warraties since for many deserving owners.

You have to pay to play. When one installs a boost controller and blows a motor, you pay to have a new motor installed not try to scam the dealer.

When I had the dealer mod my sti, part of the deal is that if you have any engine problems they will put the car back to stock before a representative comes out to look at it, at no charge.

It wasn't a bent rod... I took it to the dealer and it turned out the be a bent exhuast valve and loose timing chain. Runs like a champ now...

thats good to hear, but the vibe in the clutch was clearly an indication that something was amiss with the engine. This is a good point of reference to remember.
