Hey all MSP enthusiasts! This is my first post and it sucks it has to be in the car problems forum but oh well lol.

So I started up my car today leaving work and let it warm up for maybe 8-10 minutes and i hit the freeway and headed for my house which is only a mere 2 exits down the freeway.

When i got home i parked in my driveway and got out of my car and i smelled something like smoke or my clutch or some smell when i got out of my car (was still letting it idle) and so i popped the hood to see a little smoke coming from somewhere around the left side of the turbo it looked like..(if your looking at it from the top). It only had a little amount of smoke comin from that area for a few minutes after i shut the car off then it stop completely. It has never done this before and I was a little worried so I headed on here but couldnt find anything related in search..

Also I sprayed off all over the turbo with brake cleaner maybe 2 and a half hours prior to me getting off work and driving home, because there was some oil residue build up around it..

any help with what might cause this would be much appreciated, thanks!

your turbo could be leaking oil, when they leak the oil will start to smoke after a while. Might be time for a new turbo or a rebuild of your turbo.

might just be a leak in the oil line and not the turbo itself. see if you can find where it is coming from. if the exhaust is smoking, it will probably be a seal.

Ya I think it was from all the built up oil residue that I got off when i sprayed it all with brake cleaner and i think the smoke was from it burning the rest of it off... what u guys think?

im at 92k miles also, so im right around where you would normally replace/rebuild the turbo but i try and stay off boost as much as possible to keep me outta the dealership
