sounds like it is runing very rich or runing very lean once it goes into boost. the only really to know what the car is doing is getting a wideband. do you have one?

could be the wastegate

SCMP3

the only mod to the car is a apexi turbo timer that has a a/f ratio gauge but it is not hooked up and i have no idea how to.

how would i check the wastegate? i know for a fact that the car is 100% oem minus the turbo timer. i just changed the alternator and it was the oem one. ive heard the wastegates on these good bad often. is this true?

the wastegate actuator can go bad fairly easy! im not sure about the actual wastegate. The hesitation is most likely caused by the stock tune of the ecu. but the bucking could be fuel cut! I recommend getting a boost gauge! and hooking up your a/f gauge so you can see some of the vitals of your engine.

any help with conecting the gauge?

Im pretty sure ur hitting fuel cut. Does it feel like you hit a brick wall? If so your hittin fuel cut. List all you mods and that might help.

the one time it jerked real hard it felt like i hit a brick way it was hard enough to make my neck hurt. other times it feels like i am tapping the brakes lightly. i have no mods 100% stock other than the apexi turbo timer which i wanna say is wired in but does not work. this is my first turbo car and im not to good with the electrics so be easy on me if i sound like a newb, cause i am.

Its fuel cut, even though your stock, your hitting fuel cut.

SCMP3

how is that and how do i fix that?

take your car to a dealership and see if you have the updated software for the car. Also if its cold where you live it will just happen. But make sure its a speed dealer, if you go to a regular dealer they will just tell you nope cant help and will not even give you chance to talk.

SCMP3

how would i know whether its a speed or not a speed dealer?

how would i know whether its a speed or not a speed dealer?

got to mazdausa.com and put in your zip and select the speed dealer option and it will give you a list of speed dealers in your area.

And like said before if its cold there, the only fix is some sort of management system...ie SS AFC, Unichip or something on that lines.

SCMP3

i know nothing about fuel managment systems so lets hope not

unichip is plug and play. simple! And the AFC has splicing but a breeze to install. Im planning on tuning mine this weekend or next. But supposely its easy as pie also. But with you basically being stock either system without tuninng will help with the fuel cut big time.

Rush is selling her unichip for 525 shipped. And it can easily be tuneed for around 100 bucks from what Ive been told.

A management system is a great buy, but if your WGA (waistgate actuator) is bad then you will still hit fuel cut!

when the seal on the WGA goes bad it can cause your turbo to max out its boost. in turn will max out the stock injectors causing fuel cut. and if not fixed can cause zoom zoom boom.

I bought my car with a bad WGA it did exactly what your explaining is wrong with your car.
I would take the vac hose off the wga and blow in it, if you can blow air through then your wga is bad.

speed1016

+1 check the wga, the air should seep threw slowly when your blow extreamly hard. But if the air is almost free flowing you got a bad wga.

where exactly is the wastegate located? any pics? sorry newb to turbos.

its the only vac line coming from the turbo.

SCMP3
12-07-2008, 02:58 PM
SO i pull the vac Line and then try to blow air threw it?

speed1016
12-07-2008, 03:03 PM
yes, pull the hose from the tee not the wga. Try and blow air threw it, if its easy goin then your wga is shot if its tough your good. The next step would be seeing if your car has the reflash or not. If it doesnt you might want to search and see if its for you or not. If its already reflashed and your still getting fuel cut and stock boost levels then you might want to get a AFC or unichip, or some sort of management system.

thank you for the info. i went to Mazda about the reflash, but i forgot my VIN #. so they couldn't do anything. Ive talked with the 2 guys there that work mainly on Mazdaspeeds and they know what they are talking about so i will be calling next week about the reflash regardless. it sounds weird but i kinda hope its the WG. it would be a good excuse to upgrade right? lol. thanks again i will post verdict on the WG later today.

speed1016
12-07-2008, 03:43 PM
well either way you can upgrade something either the AFC or wastegate. I would do both if you got the $

SCMP3
12-07-2008, 05:12 PM
well the verdict is that the WG is not holding any air back so new wastgate it is. any brand for recomendations? also i broke the T vac line dis thing. and i cant get the plastic out of the VAC lines. i guess i need new lines? Heres the damage.

line to the WG

whats left of the T

Where that line goes into the IM

The line to the Bypass valve.

allthe vac lines are oem ant that is probably why the t broke. any help would be awesome.
