View Full Version : R/C Helos
Hi,
I always like R/C helos but was a bit scare to get one because the cost. Well there are a lot more choices now than 10 years ago and I'm thinking of getting one. The question I have is what would be a good starter helo? Something I can learn on and may be able to upgrade if I would like too. Would like to keep cost as low as possible. Not really worried about if is gas or electric. May be I could get some pros and cons between electric vs gas.

to start out, i would get something that is cheap, electric, and you wouldn't mind throwing away. electric, because you will have enough problems to worry about just learning how to fly and electric is just charge and go. you are almost guaranteed to destroy your first, so get something that the replacement parts are cheap and you can fly for a year or so until you get something more permanent.
Would this be a good start?

Venom is not bad for a starter heli, parts should be readily available. It is not particularly upgradeable. The Night Ranger 3D might be a better long term option.
Starting off give yourself lots of space, the average living room will not be big enough. Single rotor helis of that size can be twitchy and you will need space to get the feel for how it wanders. Get some extra main and tail rotor blades and a replacement rear boom. Those will get damaged easily in a mishap. I don't know if that will come with training gear, if not pick some up or something from a similar heli (eflite blade cx)
