So I installed my Forge BPV last night. Wow. Did it ever make a difference. I spike now at about 21 psi and it doesnt fade off to 14 psi. It drops to about 18 psi and holds all the way through the gear. Now im currently running the blue spring with 2 shims. I have the Cobb AP. Does the spring set up sound about right? I did some searching and hadnt found any feedback as to what spring set up people are running with just the AP. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. And also, can running the wrong spring damage your engine? If not Ill just experiment with different set ups. Thanks again.

thats quite an increase right there. i imagine the nice cold dense air we in the midwest are getting is accentuating the effect as well. from what you are describing, i don't think you are in any kind of critical danger.

You could safely run the red spring with no washers...

First off try using the yellow with 2 shims, it holds boost quite well and it wont put some stress on both the bov spring and stuff, just a thought. I had the blue spring before and it didnt feel right, experiment though...

And its not that loud either. I only get the sound of it after I hit about 7 or 8 psi. Anything below that and I dont hear it at all. Is this bad or should I hear it whenever I run +boost. Call me crazy but this thing seems to have helped my shifting a ton to... Its all around just a lot smoother when im running through the gears at a good pace. My friend has a 04 Chevy 1500 SS AWD and we use to run pretty even. Now that I put the BPV on I hit second gear.... no lag.... and im gone. I couldnt believe it. He couldnt either cause I didnt tell him what I did.....haha

Are you running stock or are you modded? I've heard that if you are totally stock and you install these you actually see a drop in power (or maybe I'm imagining things?). From what people are saying, they absolutely love the Forge. I'm just wondering if it helps out with stock performance. Not looking for a gain, just something to help it pull a little smoother. :)

as for it not being that loud, add a cai/sri and it will be 5x as loud

Im running completely stock besides the Cobb AccessPort. Im so totally sold on this product. I have never been so happy with something I have purchased for a car. It feels so much stronger when im running it through the gears. Instant boost into the next gear. As for a drop in power???? I havent felt any. If there is a drop in power.. the lack of lag when shifting gear to gear makes up for it alot. BUY ONE ASAP. You wont be disappointed.

What mods do you have?? Holding 18psi all the way does not sound right.... all stock (even bolt on modded) speed3/6 logs I've seen drop to about 10psi by redline.....

Just the Cobb Ap running stage 1 and the Forge BPV. I know. Its crazy. Now Im just going by the psi that my AP says. So I dont know how accurate that is but it says im holding right around 17.5 to 18.5. If I take it right to redline... which I normally dont... it would drop to 16 or so. I usually shift around 5500.

Yeah, the car gets out of it's powerband after 5500 or so. Where did you pick yours up from?

If you haven't noticed, I'm very interested in getting this :p

The only thing bad I notice is that I get a little bit of flutter when I let off the gas slowly. But most of the time just driving im not in boost anyways so it doesnt matter.

You try any new springs? I got my forge used and the only springs I have are the blue one and a weird light greenish yellow one. The only setups I have tried are the blue and 2 shims / blue.

Everyone seems to notice such a huge difference with the forge. I didn't notice anything but the louder noise. I have to find a dyno around here and see what im at.

Nope. No other springs yet. Thinking about taking a shim out to see if I can get rid of some of this flutter. I get it when I let off the gas slowly or when I hit boost and dont shift, say for example 6th gear passing someone on the highway.

What's the deal with all these springs and shims? I'm planning on getting the Forge BPV here shortly as well but it sounds confusing! Does it come with a little box of springs and other little goodies and the directions say: "Good luck!" ??

Its not confusing. The only confusion was some of the older orders were sent with the wrong spring set. The bpv comes in a box with 3 springs and 2 shims. The stiffer springs are meant for the higher boost levels.

Yellow = weakest spring (shouldnt use even if stock)
Blue = middle (what 90% use)
Red = stiff ( when your pushing 20 psi)

Shims = each shim makes the spring a little stronger.

Install takes like 5 min and I never got instructions so I dont know what they say.

Basically just test out blue spring, blue spring + 1 shim, blue spring +2 shim

See which one feels best for you.

I think some of you are confusing flutter with surge.

Flutter on a low/non boost situation is fine. The valve is basically trying to equalize pressure. This is not surge. When you let of the gas.

On a high boost, if you dont hear your forge ping off, its too tight= surging if you can hear it. The ping noise is the basic way u can tell if its recirculating properly.

If your using a yellow spring it is probably too light and will not hold boost pressure well and blow off(recirc/ping) very easily. Most use blue and a shim or 2 (even stock app)

Disregard the recommended spring (yellow i think) for boost pressure from forge website, that is not correct for our engines.

CAI or forge BPV is good. bpv + cai = better. just get it. i think i have blue spring in- but may try blue + one shim

So how often do you have to service this BPV or do you even have to?

Awesome!

Depends on where you live. If in extreme cold or extremely dusty conditions you might want to service the valve more frequently but if not I recommend giving it a once over once or twice a year.

I got my valve used and I have 2 shim / blue spring in it. I tried 1 blue alone and the far felt VERY sluggish. Overall it feels okay but everyone seems to notice such a night and day difference. Maybe mine is broken or something :(.

Check that the recirc tube is tight on the discharge port of the valve. You may have to ditch the factory tension clamp and use a worm-drive style, if that connection isn't sealing right the car will draw in un-metered air and you will run rich.

hmm ill try getting some tighter clamps.

i'm curious, did the tighter clamps resolve the issue?

bpv will be one of my first purchases after Christmas.(cabpatch)

if you have a forge on a stock speed 6 will you still hear the "ping" blow off?? i still have the stock airbox...

Yes, just not as loud as with an intake. I ran mine like that for about 2 months, no problems.

okay so i just want to get this straight. Will or can I ever get compressor surge with using the blue spring on a stock MS6? Compressor surge is the only thing that I'm worried about :( Because part of me wants to just play it safe and sacrifice some boost with the yellow just to make sure that I don't get any surge.

I had your same dilemma about 3 weeks ago. Just try the blue by itself.... Than try it plus 1 and then 2. See what feels best. I was completely stock beisdes the AP when I put mine on and I stuck with the blue plus 2. So just tinker around with it. It only takes a couple minutes to switch it out. Did you say play it safe and sacrifice boost????? Over the line!!!
