View Full Version : Brake 'clunk' when backing up .... common?

I've had my MS3 for about 6 weeks. When I hit the brakes the first time after I've start backing-up, I instantly get a moderately loud 'clunk' noise from the front brakes. This happens at very low speeds, like when backing out of the garage, etc, and only the first time I hit the brakes after starting to back-up. Once I go forward again, if I hit the brakes, no clunk. If I then back-up again and hit the brakes, I get another clunk.

To me it sounds like the front pads are shifting in the calipers, so I get a clunk the first time I hit the brakes after changing direction. But if that was the case, I would expect it when going forward again as well.

I'm going to ask the dealer about it when I have it in for the first service, but I wanted to know if this is a common thing with MS3s or am I just special?

Thanks!

Take your pads of and lube them. That's it. I did it and it work great.

some people heard a clunk like you described and found out that their endlinks for the suspension were loose or broken

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll have the dealer look at it to be sure.

what do you mean by endlinks?
