I was thinking about actually doing this, I'm not sure though. I'm getting sick of the colour (sorry to fellow yellows), tired of little kids grabbing their mom's arm and pointing out the car. Also, I don't want the car to stand out as much once it is back on the road with a V6.

lol The little kids at walmart seem to think I drive a yellow race car! Its actually pretty funny imo.

I had similar thought with my msp, but never that the guts to do it. I saw an STI flat black and it looked sweet as hell. I say do it!

In theory...

OBDII is considered emissions equipment that cannot be removed or replaced with anything but equivalent.

I do see a few sh^tboxes driving around flat black. I would worry about it looking cheap. However,

as long as you replaced it with OBDII... you could still take it to emissions, have it plugged in and scanned for codes just like stock. Chances are they wouldn't even open the hood anyway...

no?

there is two ways to do a flat black paint job! first is the cheap ricer way! rattle can! second is the right way, normal black base coat followed by a flat clear! i think its a good idea! if done right! there needs to be some kinda bling on there! an all flat black car will just look too crappy! maybe some chrome rims or something to set it off!

We don't get scanned here for testing, just a dyno'd sniff. That's what I mean't when I said in theory.

If you are considering a flat black, I would recommend, John Deere Blitz Black, its actually more like Satin Black, just search that and you will results, its cheap too, I think last time I checked like $30 for a gallon here locally.

all im going to say, if your going to do any sort of paint work, do it right, do it once.

dont skimp on a paintjob, because you will get what you pay for.

A little off topic but PLEASE fix your sig... that's like... half the screen right there.

you should do up a nice Black Lacquered look. no mica... just a clean, piano black.

My sig? It's smaller than yours?

That was an initial thought of mine, but I already own a true black car. Two would mean all my cars would have to be matching.

Another option I've been considering is a dark grey similar to the MSP colour.

Flat black is ALL the rage right now. I was at the SEMA show last week and there was at least one of every make done in flat black. My feeling is that it's going to get played out pretty quick.

I did see a flat burgandy. That looked pretty cool.

Yeah, flat black is def. the "IN" style now

i wouldn't do it myself.

Now a flat burgandy sounds intresting

Did it look like an 80's Caddy that had been sitting in the sun?

Flat black can be done well but rarely is. It may be hard finding a paint shop with any expertise painting a car this way.

Flat black is a really bad color for LA. My car is blue and the AC can barely keep up on a hot day. If it was painted flat black it would probably be too much heat for the AC in August. Not so much of an issue in Canada though.

It actually looked pretty good, although, I don't remember for the life of me what car it was on. I want to say it was a 70 camaro. All the trim had been flat blacked, but the body was flat burgandy.

I just want to note that the Lambo and Porsche are both satin black, not flat black. Also not sure about the Lambo but I think I remember a thread on another forum about it. It is actually a vinyl wrap. Which is becoming very popular. Look it up. Many higher end cars are doing it. That way when they get tired of it a few years down the road, or want to sell they can just peel it off. Proven to work very well and strong too.

Looks like a good job on that Bimmer, although Bimmers should be black. I'm definately going to look into this when I get my car back on the road.
