Had my cx-7 for 3 months now and find it very hard on gas my other vechicle is a chev avalanche 5.3L and is much better on gas. Just wondering is fuel consumption suppose too be this high in the cx-7 on the mazda website it says 11L/100km this is not even close in my opinion.

My wife does 22-23mpg on a consistent basis for almost 2 years now. I track it every single time and every single time she hits it dead on. When I drive, its a different story. I get 17-19mpg but I also have a heavier foot and like the turbo.

i notice on mine if the rpms rise above 2500 then the turbo is boosting and i use more gas. this is usually quicker driving and with more 70/30-hwy/city drivng. above 2500rpm i get 20mpg...below i avg 23-24. keep the boost down

I consistanly get 20 to 22 depending on how much the AC and turbo is on boost.

my wife gets about 19 mpg, in the AWD, with a 3 mile each way commute. very stop and go, very little highway.

Mine gets 18-19 mpg when driven mostly in town. 20-22 mpg when driven below 2500 on the highway with cruise control on.
FYI the boost starts at 2300 rpm. With my CAI I can hear the spooling so it is easy to keep my foot out.
Not the worse car I have driven with regards to gas mileage. My Brothers 68 GTO with a pumped RAIV 400 CID with 4:56 gears got 12 highway, 8 in town. But it would run Mid 12 seconds on street tires through the mufflers. It was a real blast to drive. More so when it had a 4 speed in it. He switched over to the Turbo400 to keep from breaking rear ends when at the drag strip.
My 1991 C2500 truck with a 5 speed would get 18mpg on the highway with 5.7 liter 350 engine but only 12 mpg in town. Wife made it go away with $100+ fill ups... 34 gallon tank...

You must baby the 5.3l as I had the LS4 5.3l V8 in my Grand Prix GXP and only got 12-13 in the city :( But then I did love hte power and torque of that sweet little V8 :) Freeway, 26mpg was no problem though.
