Earlier this week we reported on the breakdown of negotiations between General Motors and Chrysler regarding a potential merger, but it appears this has done nothing to deter other potential suitors seeking out Chrysler's hand, with Hyundai reportedly showing interest in the ailing Detroit manufacturer.

Hyundai has been in talks with Chrysler's owners, Cerberus Capital Management, about potentially acquiring a number of Chrysler assets, including Chrysler's Jeep brand, an inside source familiar with the matter has revealed to Reuters. While both companies have not made any official statements, the source mentioned that Hyundai and Chrysler could just be one of the potential match-ups following the breakdown in negotiations between GM and Chrysler.

Previous to GM taking the lead in the bid for Chrysler, Renault-Nissan was also showing interest in acquiring parts of Chrysler. Nissan already produces the new Dodge Trazo for Chrysler, and a potential merger between Renault-Nissan and Chrysler could be back on the cards following GM's withdrawal.

Yesterday Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli mentioned that he would continue to work on returning the carmaker to profitability, while seeking partnerships at the same time. "As an independent company we will continue to explore multiple strategic alliances or partnerships as we investigate growth opportunities around the world that would aid our return to profitability."

GM withdrew from negotiations following the release of details of its substantial $2.5 billion third-quarter loss and the announcement last week that Treasury talks to secure additional aid to help fund a merger between GM and Chrysler were unfruitful.

Hyundai is still uphill with improving its brand perception, so I'm not sure what value Chrysler can bring to it, maybe some market share and some new market segments?

well it would give them a truck and larger suv line, but why bother? those types of vehicles sales are dead. they are sharing the world engine from the evo/srt/genesis though so they have some stake in needing to keep chrysler around i guess.
