Just how quick is the Tesla Roadster now that it's been blessed with version 1.5 of its drivetrain? Pretty dang quick, as a recent 12.7-second blast down the quarter-mile will attest. The first powertrain that was installed in the electric car used a two-speed transmission, while the latest v1.5 needs just one speed for seamless power delivery from zero to the car's top speed. That should make the Roadster an excellent bracket car, especially considering it was able to put down such impressive numbers with a novice racer behind the wheel who posted a relatively poor .764 reaction time. Its terminal velocity was nearly 105 miles per hour, and whatever car happened to be in the lane next to the Tesla got its butt kicked by an electric car. What's this world coming to?

Read an article on this weeks ago. Only a couple rich people have this car. Maybe more people have one by now though.

They just recently started rolling them off the production line I believe since they finally solved the transmission issue they were having. Yeah, they're a little pricey at $90-$100k but its a promising start.

Well, sort off...

Tesla made 15 initial deliveries to customers. Last week it was reported, however, that they had just a few $million in the bank and had to fire 70+ employees. They have delayed developement of their sedan, as well. This is shocking since they have deposits for hundreds of orders which surely means they spent some of that deposit money and can't produce the actual car. The deposits are from wealthy Californians (largely) would would not allow Tesl to go quietly into this good night.

Luckily they convinced someone to give them an additional $40M to continue production and/or development operations.

My opinion of the car is pretty low given the fact that they can't seem to get a multi-speed transmission to work. I find it hard to believe they can't source one from somewhere. I mean, they convinced Lotus to stretch the Elise chassis and deliver it unassembled to Cali at a reasonable cost. I know there are complexities dealing with a very high torque electric motor versus an IC engine, but those are not insurmountable, especially compared to successfully wiring like 10,000 laptop batteries together without blowing yourself up.
