I replaced mine with wider (7.5") 18's that weight 19.5 lbs each. The difference is definitely noticeable.

My RX-8 wheels are 21# Average street drivers won't gain any benefit from the lighter wheel. 225/40s should fix the stock wheel fine -- they're less than 1/2 inch wider.

The wheel/tire package I'm using is 7 pounds lighter at each corner. Less unsprung weight means more grip over rough roads, better ride, better acceleration and braking.

There's a lot of cheap wheels out there in the ~20 lb range. Here's where I got mine... they're still on sale for dirt cheap:
