Got it used on here almost a year ago (took FOREVER for me to finally get it painted). It's a Mintblue, which you can't readily buy anymore (if at all). Erebuni sold a copy of them but they only had a couple left over a year ago.

Just got this car last month. I'll post a better picture as soon as I get the chance. http://a255.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/60/l_1d8bcbaba6128860a451fda24b26cd1e.jpg

The previous owner took off the MP3 badges, and one of the caps on the wheels is missing. Also they switched the rear MP3 badge with a Protege one. No idea why. Also the previous owner drilled holes too far apart so my front license plate can't be put on. What do I do about that? Drill new holes or something?

awesome...seems like the yellow calipers tends to be a common thing...actually my first mod. Now I got the Willwoods. (glare)

I think I want to go with a flat black rim next. Maybe buy another set of rims and sell the stock ones. It's just an idea. Looking into some Rota SVNs or Rota SDXs in 18. I wouldn't mind doing either and throwing a lue lip on them. Well see.

I have it payed off and have both worked hard and want it gone lol. I actually JUST installed a rear motor mount today. It's hell having to keep dumping money into it. I just want to drive it and leave it alone but something always manages to break. The tranny is about due, they usually last me 6months. Thanks for posting up pics Pat.

LinuxRacr
11-03-2008, 09:04 AM
My transaxle hasn't broken in like 3 years. I hear ya on the fixing thing. That's the way cars are designed these days. They are advertised as performance cars, and unless you drive them exactly opposite of the way they are advertised, things are designed to start breaking the day after you pay it off. Fixing things here and there is still cheaper than having a monthly car payment for me.

CulRidr
11-03-2008, 11:17 AM
^That's exactly it. I've read more then once that if the car costs you more then 1500$/year to maintain, you should change. But, 1500$/year or 500$/month *12...not a hard decision if you really like the car :)

LinuxRacr
11-03-2008, 05:48 PM
Another thing I wonder about is how folks drive and shift? I was taught that shifting should be like breaking in a virgin. Don't force it, let it fall right into gear. If I don't have enough power to beat them in my car, shifting smoothly, than that means I don't have enough power. If I want to be able to shift like I race car's gearbox, I'll have to buy one!

Thanks guys. The manifold was from a company that is now defunct. They made good stuff, but I think became overwhelmed, and it spiraled out of control. My MAF is just there to keep the CEL off, as I am running a MAP sensor, with the Haltech. I guess I forgot to post a picture of that. Check for the update.

CULRIDR! that's exactly what i was planning on doing to my wheels - i want to keep the stock rims but wanted them gun metal (and here i was thinking i was all original with that idea, lol). can you tell me where you got them done and how much it ran you?

CulRidr
11-07-2008, 06:10 PM
I'm not the 1st one either, as I took my final decision (after also wanting gunmetal) after seeing yet another MP3 with this done.

And to answer your question, it cost me ~100$ worth of material (sandpaper, primer, Duplicolor gunmetal paint, Duplicolor clear coat.

FROZEN: Patch the holes, paint them over and when the cops pull you over, tell them when you bought the car there was no holes to put a license plate! the ticket isn't too much for a missing front plate anyway, right? (and if you do this, let me know, b/c i'm thinking about taking my front plate off and doing the same! lol)

thanks CUL. I bought my MP3 new but let it sit for 3 1/2 years (i commute 120 round trip to work and wanted to give it a break after racking up 105K miles in 4 years on it, so I bought a truck) and just put it back on the road - i'll get some new pics up this weekend (and update my profile with the few things i have done to it!) Great pics guys - I am glad i found this group again! I was debating on not doing any more mods to my car b/c i thought maybe it would be worth more one day if it was all original (i saved every OEM part i've replaced just in case) but i've decided i love this car TOO much to ever want to sell it! maybe it's b/c it was the first new car i ever bought (the first car i ever bought on my own for that matter), but i can't imagine ever getting rid of it!

P.S. thanks for that link CUL, i'm a little scared of trying that on my own though - was a fairly easy process?

CulRidr

No it wasn't hard at all. And to put it in perspective, I did mine WITHOUT that how-to; I only found it about a week after I finished my wheels.
Just make sure to take your time :)

alright, they're not the best pics - in fact, they are the worst on this thread, and possibly on the site, lol. but my digital camera is acting up (it won't charge) so i couldn't get any pics done this weekend, but i came across a couple i took w/my cell phone while it was in my dad's garage about to be worked on. to see the lift my dad has in his garage is worth it though. not bad for a backyard mechanic - but he's the best, i don't take my car anywhere else! oh yeah, and one of my truck the day i bought it!

I run the J-Spec cam and on the butt dyno it feels less torquey down low and shifts it higher up. Gives the car a V-Tecy feel specially when you hit 5200 RPM and the solenoid in the intake mani opens. MUCH more noticable when I went turbo.

Speaking of feedback, I felt like I had more feedback on the stock suspension. Would pillow ball mounts take that away?!

A couple pics on the dyno and one back when I had the DG lip on with black paint. I have it sitting in the garage primered, ready for paint, but now I need more money and will prob wait till spring to paint the whole body kit. Buddy Club 2 side skirts and rear bumper with the DG front lip painted blue on the top half and black on the bottom half (think R34).

Nice...except XNAY on the Buddy club kits. I've never been a fan of the WW or the Buddy Club after seeing them in person. I think they kill the clean look of the MP3. I think you should lower it first. Tein Springs FTW.

I think the BC2 kit is the only clean body kit made for these cars, anything else outside of that and the OEM fuck up the lines horribly. I like the WW rear lip, but thats it.

I'm having second thoughts about the side skirts. I didn't realize how flat/plain they are. They just go straight down with no flare or anything. The rear vent is cool, but the rest just looks so bland. I LOVE the rear bumper though. I'm really glad I was able to get a hold of one. I'll def. be putting the front DG lip on and the rear bumper. Then I'll have to compare the sideskirts.

Actually I won a deluxe care kit at a car show last summer. I'm doing some mechanical work on his wife's blazer and instead of paying me, we're trading labor. He used the stuff I won and got it looking and feeling great. The weather has been unusually warm lately, so I cleaned it up real nice and parked in the garage with the car cover on after taking the pics. I'll pull it out on Sat for a local weekly car show if it's not snowing (which is the current prediction). Soon the streets will be clean enough to put the CF hood back on and maybe, just maybe, I'll finally be able to afford paint for the body kit in a couple months.

(lol)

Get some goo gone, or other citrus based adhesive remover. Then use a plastic scraper (old credit card works great). Spray it on the sticker, let it sit for a min or two and work your way in from the outside. Have a rag handy to wipe up the adhesive as it runs down the door. Reapply the spray as necessary. Make sure you don't let the remover run down the door to the side skirts. You don't want those accidentally coming off.

No, not completely. They won't fall off, but if too much of the adhesive remover gets down there, it could definately loosen the grip on the side skirt.

guysss sick ridessss!! my mp3 is pretty banged up.. just got into an accident last monday so it's going into the shop this weekend HOPEFULLY! (crossing my fingers)

I had the old ES bumper on it after i got into an accident last year august bc i couldnt find the mp3 bumper.. it looked so.. non mp3ish :/

but now that I am getting it fixed I am going to put the mp3 bumper on it again! (If I can find it!) I saw the WW bumper.. it looks ok online.. any comments on it?

I also want to drop my carrr.. it looks like a monster truck :( any sugg for new springs and how much it would run me? I don't want my wheels to rub.. i have the stock mp3 rims..

I have alot of work to do to get to where you guys are at so suggestions would be awesome please..

i will take some pics tommorow and show you guys the damage and how my mp3 looks now..

(help) me out with this project guys! (cool)

I do believe the MP3`s bumper is the same one as on the P5, but we have a lip. Come to think of it.. i need a new lip. Its supose to be crazy nice here in Ottawa so I`ll get some picks up this weekend.

You could try getting an MSP bumper, without the bottom lip, then it would be identical to the MP3.

mp3-79bronco

the bumper itself is the same its just the lip that makes it different

i just got a new bumper put on since my car is in the body shop, and the only one they found was a aftermarket one for like 188 bucks, and by aftermarket i mean looks just like oem, just not

You changed your post, which said something about all 01-03 being the same. Unless you meant the rear bumper? That would make sense after you mentioning the rear lip, but it didn't follow the previous post so that's why I got confused

LOL. At first I assumed rear bumper but when I went back and read all of the posts, I was like, oh, they're talking about the front bumper. So yeah, then any SEDAN bumper from 99-03 will fit for the rear.

So were you able to find the MP3 lip then?

I bought it this summer from a guy in Floyd, VA.. it was super riced out (see thread) (http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123744770) and I did the best I could at restoring it and making it better. So here's what I have so far.

KrayzieFox

Nice. You definitely brought that MP3 back to life. Was the turbo setup on it already?

No way. It came with an AEM SRI and a Magnaflow fart can (never seen it before for the Protege..) and the rest was pure rice. The wheels it came with didn't look half bad, but they're 18's.. which is overkill for our cars. Plus I would rather have more tire and less rim any day.

It took forever to bring it back to even stock condition man, then the turbo came after. Took me almost the whole summer, but it was well worth it. The downside is that I got so tired of working on it that I don't even wanna change my oil anymore lol.
