Hello,

I don't know much about cars so bare with me ...

Basically I messed up, and destroyed my engine in my mp3 and it needs to be replaced. The automotive repair shop quoted me $5800 for a remanufactured engine and $4000 for a used engine. Which to me is ridiculously high. I found an engine on this forum that was quoted to "bolt right in" so I looked it up and found one for cheap here:

JDM Engines

FS-ZE Engine

*Link wont show but it was from a website called street unit.

I called the shop and they said they wouldn't put it in because If they messed up that it wouldn't be covered under warranty and I would blame them. I think I took it to the wrong place ...

My question is basically - are these engines reliable? If I make an investment in one how likely is it that it will be able to go right in without any problems? Has anyone tried one? Any ideas of what I can do or who can put this in for me?

I'm an idiot when it comes to cars and I just don't want to make any mistakes that will cost me more money than I've already lost.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

www.protegegarage.com sells engines for around $1k. Just find a good one with low miles.

Any standard transmission engine from a 2.0L Protegé will do. You should be able to get one with decent miles for between 500$ and 1000$. With EVERYTHING included, you shouldn't have to pay more then 2grand for the engine, install, extra parts needed (timing belt, fluids, etc.etc)

Okay ...

I think I decided to buy one from www.protegegarage.com ...

I'll have it shipped to a place who quoted me 1100-1200 for labor.

So hopefully only around $2500?

Bleh.
