Painting Calipers

I haven't done it to my CX-9, but I did it to my old Tiburon.
Advice: Don't buy the cheap spray-on caliper paint they sell at Wallmart.
I did that and it started flaking after a year. Then I bought a 2-part epoxy brush-on and it lasted 5-6 years.

autozone sells the brush on kit....i think jcwhitney online has more colors though if ya wanna order it......the kit come with a can of brake cleaner and a can of ceramic paint.......my sugestion is to put the car up on jack stands, take all the tires off, then pull all your calipers. DON'T disconect them though ulsess you wanna bleed and fight with the brake system. get some wire hangers and bend them so you can hang the calipers from the springs. clean all the calipers really well(mght have to get an extra can of brake cleaner) then go to town painting......oh yeah 2 coats

nice red ones, i like the mazda logo adds a nice touch.. would red on a Stormy blue cx-9 look good? last thing i want is it to look ricer hahaha.

Painting brake (yes it's brake not break (bang)) calipers to try to fake looking like a Porsche or Brembos is the definition of rice.

Doing it on an SUV is just silly.

painting the calipers is not rice....i think it adds contrast especially if you have painted rims....it's just an added amount of color....

it's not rice to dress up the engine bay is it??

If you want to paint your calipers, you should buy the G1 Caliper Paint Kit. I think it will cost you about $45 bucks. It is better than the Duli-color Caliper Paint Kit.

Painting your brake calipers is not rice. I think you know that by painting your calipers you aren't increasing your horsepower. Painting makes the car stand out as a whole. I use the dupli-color kit. I've found though that I have to repaint every so often because of paint chips that arise from normal driving. I'll be painting tomorrow in fact. =)

no it doesn't increase horsepower

but you know what they say red cars go faster

so red brakes well erh i guess stops faster?

So in summation, if you want to you should paint your calipers. It's your car anyways, why not?

putting paint on a cast iron or aluminum caliper only adds insulation to the natural cooling of brakes, would never do it if I intended to really put some heat into them from consistant use, now using temp paint before hand would tell you if they could handle the insulation properties of paint. But then for show, well its all about your priorities. Ever have brakes overheat and fade, that's some scary stuff at speed.

I would not use paint kits on your calipers. I would go with Powder Coating. It will not peal or chip as easy. Plus it holds up better with the heat.

I used the dupli-color from autozone in the brush on form. Went on great with no issues. The red looks awesome against my black wheels, also ties in with my red stock lip and the red pin stripe I added.

I still think the CX9 is far too mature a vehicle to do silly things like paint the calipers.
